We grew up with two Hans Wegner wishbone chairs in our front hallway. While they were rarely used, they were (and are) the embodiment of mid century Danish style that our family reveled in. We almost wet ourselves when we came across these bar stools ($345) the other day at Digs. These are more than an homage, (there is a regular chair with caning available that is a plain old knock off). But the bar stool is like nothing weve ever seen before and we say bravo! The lines of the wood are so beautiful and while Mr. Wegner might be furious, we are hoping that he is doing less rolling in his grave* and more kvelling. Come on people, these are hot!
* He'll be doing no grave-rolling. He is alive and well. Sorry for the flub.

Last I heard, Hans Wegner was still alive...not only do you condone ripping off his design (albeit, 50 years old), but you're gonna bury him before he's dead? You guys can do better.

Mr. Wegner appears not only to be alive, but to be associated with a company that produces authorized chairs in his designs:

Oddly, his signature Wishbone chair reminds me of nothing so much as a Chinese horseshoe chair.
...went looking for the authorized dealer in Los Angeles and got totally distracted by said dealer's selection of George Nelson wall clocks. If I had a vaulted ceiling and money to burn, I'd buy this one so fast:

Trillium (and the rest)
We are so wrong! In our excitement to post the pretty stool, we misread a comment that talked of the 90 year old Wegner, but we thought it read " who would have been 90".
We are stupid and we are sorry for the grave mistake.
Where can we purchase these Wegner wishbone STOOLS? We have some of the chairs, but need some stools for our "bar seating in the family room...Thanks,
Sara Harwin
Did Mr. Wegner ever live/work in Asia?
Wende is right about the similarity to antique Chinese wishbone/horseshoe chairs. Perhaps Mr. Wegner was inspired by them during his travels?
