Anthropologie's new furniture line up

02_07yellowanthr.jpgWhat-up with Anthropologies swell furniture spring line up? They are normally a bit on the shabby chic side but things are-a-changin over at Anthro. Here are some of the pieces from their spring line up. Our favorite the lemon yellow Keinu Rocker by Eero Aarnio at a mear $3,998...shipping not included of course.

02_07greencouch.jpg We wish their keen eye for style also involved a keener eye for price points.

There are some good clean lines on this vintage inspired green couch. Ditte Sofa available for $3,498.00

02_07multruganthr.jpgSpectra Rug available for $198.00 to $598.00

all available on line at Anthropologie.com

I adore Anthropologie, however, their prices are at least 25% then retail. And that starts with something on the low end, like the Erica Weiner jewelry they sell for $55 that is $30 on her website, to items like the Iannone Sanderson console, which they are selling for $2500. You can get it for $1,800 at www.vivavi.com. So, Anthropologie. Why, why, why? Still, I love to look, and am drooling over that ditte sofa in the buttery yellow!

i love anthropologie's stuff but they are entirely too expensive. the sale price is $2,399.95 for the above yellow chair. i'm sorry if its "snarky", but that's a mortgage payment in my house.

what would REALLY be helpful, especially on this blogsite, is to list the expensive chair that everyone wants then also list a less expensive (um, actually affordable) comparable chair that we can go and purchase. there's almost no need to show super expensive items that most can't/won't buy.

c'mon, AT, give us something good. has there ever been a listing of thrift/discount stores around LA?

The problem is that "affordable" and "expensive" are entirely relative terms. Some do what I personally think of as prohibitively expensive and low on my personal priority scale, such as having a mortgage or owning a car. I prefer to rent and walk, and then spend what extra money I may have on furnishings that I will own for the next 30 years. Some may think coming home to "cheap" furniture that will only last a couple years is okay as long as they have a car to greet outside the front door to their home (that they own). Personally, my thinking is the opposite.

I think AT should continue posting beautiful design no matter if it's from DWR, Moss, Target, a thrift store or the Dumpster. Remember that Target is too "expensive" for some in our world. regardless of whether we can own a piece of art (functional or fine), we can all appreciate it, regardless of whether we are able to bring it into our homes, and that, at least in part is what this site does on a regular basis.

I certainly can't afford a Marc Jacobs suit, but i'll be damned if i think he should stop designing and sell them. Same thing with a Jeff Koons sculpture, a cabinet by Karim Rashid, etc. etc. etc.

eric,

could you recommend some thrift stores around LA that you may have passed on one of your many walks?

i would just appreciate seeing items in a variety of price ranges. i agree AT should post items no matter where they come from. the problem i've noticed is that lower priced items are lacking on the site. i can't remember the last time i've seen a post about a thrift store in la - if i missed it, please link me to it.

and we kinda planned on keeping our home for the next 30 years or so, it might not be a fancy piece of furniture but i love love love painting whenever the hell i feel like it...and i do love going outside to my car. mainly because its completely paid off due to hard work and planning. and i surely don't mind the "cheap" couch i sit my ass on every night.

but alas, no matter how much money and taste i may or may not have, i would still like to see options. anyone can click a button and find that chair on anthropologie. i come here to find new things that i dont otherwise have the time or resources to find.

id like to see some new items at new price ranges. anthropologie items are often posted (chandeliers, bedding, couches, etc). im looking for variety and options, not product plugs and monotony.
