Carpe Diem: Biggest Decor Splurge

091807_splurge.jpgA sales lady at DWR said to us while we were drooling over this Saarinen Womb Chair, "We have a customer who comes in once a week and just sits in this chair...he's always wanted one, and it's been thirty years! I just tell him to buy the damn thing. After all, you only live once!"

And she cackled her way back to her desk after we politely informed her that we were not about to drop 3500 crisp bills on the chair. (That $3500 could very well be rent, the car payment, and the utility bill for all of October. Or? 3500 McNasty Big n' Tasties.) We're not sure WHEN exactly we'll feel comfortable spending that amount of money on anything that doesn't transport us or house us, but we're pretty sure it might involve a winning lottery ticket or perhaps a wealthy long-lost relative...

Oh, cry me a river. If he wanted one that badly he had 30 YEARS to save for it.

You don't see a U-Haul following a hearse, do you?

bahaha, that's awesome! ya can't take it with you, sure, but 30 years is pretty ridiculous. however! i wouldn't even consider spending 3500 smackers on a chair that will just be claimed for the kingdom of cats....they're a come/see/conquer kind of species.

I could see doing it but then I'm like that. No $3500 purse though. No.

Once, when I was poor and saving to buy my first condo, I fell in love with a chair. I sat in it often at the store, and told myself that if I still loved it a year later, I could buy it. I did, so I did (it was $700 then, which was CRAZY). 15 years later it is STILL an awesome chair that my friends, my now 6 y.o., and I love to sit in!!

i am now lusting for exactly that saarinen chair....it'll take me longer than a year tho'

oh, i just love the womb chair. I'm sitting in mine right now, but I would also recommend the Bertoia Bird Chair - so much easier to buy a new cover!
