We often mention The Dock Downtown in our Sales calendar since they always seem to have something on an even deeper discount than normal. And lately with Paris on our minds we did a double take when we found their Marais Sofa online.

We hate to admit it, but somehow we seem to forget about The Dock as a resource when it comes to buying bigger pieces. But when we checked out the sofas on the website we decided to rethink our position. The Marais Sofa on the bottom in the picture is so perfectly French and comfy (and we love the natural linen (?) fabric on it) that it made us dive deeper. The when we saw the Avalon sofa, a great 60's era simple design, we realized we've been doing ourselves a disservice by not checking out the Dock for sofas. And since this weekend is the last 2 days of their red tag sale, now is their perfect place to start.

Have you ever bought a larger piece from the Dock? We've browsed their giant warehouse and have been impressed with their selection and, on the surface, the quality of the furniture they're selling (particularly the armoires and shelving systems). One of the offices we used to work in outfitted their whole space with furniture from the Dock and it seemed to hold up well.

i bought my couch there. for the price quoted in the store, you can get it covered in any fabric they carry (wide selection) or provide your own. we did ours in cat-proof ultrasuedey type fabric in a bright blue. for $300 more, they will throw a fold out bed into ANY couch they sell. we LOVE our couch. the quality is as high as anything we have seen around town and it is modern and stylish, and it sleeps guests! we bought the most expensive couch they had on the floor at the time, and added the bed and with delivery it was $1,700. some couches are in the $900 range. and sometimes they have floor models, but i think the real value is being able to customize your stuff and get a non-hideous sleeper sofa. granted the sleeper bed isnt the most comfortable, but throw a foam topper on it and it does fine for overnight guests. i have also found good deals there on thomas paul pillows and random candles and placemats and all that. and they always seem to have a crapload of teak outdoor furniture that looks pretty nice.

The sad thing is, I had just mentioned to my fiance, that I wanted to pick the Avalon couch. I check their website and I found the unpleasant surprise of their closure. We purchased a beautiful teak entertainment center at theDock and could not have been any happier with the purchase. If anyone knows where I can find that couch or who makes them, let me know. So sad!!!!!!! My fiance and I will miss you!
