The Tundra Fire Suppressant

tundra_easytouse.jpgI'd suspect a great many of you out there are like us, without a fire extinguisher ready at hand for an unexpected flare-up or household fire. I'll be the first to admit shopping for a fire extinguisher, although extremely important, is near the last items on my "remember to purchase" list. But when First Alert brings out a fire retardant liquid spray in the easy to use form and size of a household product spray can, the reasons for not having an essential safety option is extinguished to nil.

The Tundra Fire Suppressant looks like your everyday household product. But the 9" familiar design houses a biodegradable and nontoxic firefighting agent, that is released at up to four times the rate of traditional kitchen fire extinguishers. Convenient and smart, we're big proponents of dumbing down safety devices into simple safety tools, manageable by anyone.

Smart. How much and where?

Personally, I couldn't find a great place to hang my kitchen fire extinguisher (even though it's a really cool brushed chrome) so I tucked it between the stove and the wall. Probably not so smart as it's not the best access if the stove is ever on fire. But I figured excessive heat isn't an issue since I don't cook anyway!

Me too - where can you get this? I can use it as a safety meeting topic at work!

Sorry ATLA amigos y amigas...was outta this weekend with a cold, so I missed these comments.

I looked for Tundra at the listed stores on their site, but it seems like since it was just released, it's not as widely available yet. I will check out Target this afternoon during lunch and report back if I can get my hands on a can (alongside a Nintendo Wii if I'm lucky!).

I've always kept a fully charged fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Once a mo. I check the charge. To me it's as important as razor sharp knives. This stuff is interesting though.

Didn't find one today, but I did find this online retailer link selling the product for $16.44. I will check Home Depot over the holiday weekend.

Found the item at Wal*mart for $15 in the hardware section but they claim it was also near the turkey fryers. My wife was nagging me to buy one. It allegedly works on cooking oil fires. Sweet ! Unfortunately I now also own a turkey fryer but it should be warm enough outside to give it a go.

hmmm... I have never seen a liquid fire extinguisher that works on burning oil.
Does anyone know if it's ABC and handles all types of fires?

According to the information on the website, this one appears to be good on A (Wood, Paper, Fabric)C (Electrical) & K (Cooking Oil, Grease) fires although it does not specifically state the information by type class. www.firstalerttundra.com
