We keep our friends’ keys in a jar in our landing strip. They have our keys. We call each other for favours: they pick up our mail when we’re out of town; we feed their dog when they won’t be home 'til late; and, when we lost our keys, we were grateful our neighbor had a set. It's not something to take lightly, the key exchange...

the super only. management has a $100 key-in policy, but i'm sure my super would let me in, lock up for me and make me a new set while i'm at work.

I locked myself out of my condo in the middle of the night when I ran my dog out. After that, I wrapped one of my three keys up in plastic wrap to weatherproof it and hid it in my patio. I've told a few of my closest friends where it is, in case they need to get in (like to walk my dog if I die in a train wreck or something randomly horrible like that).

my neighbor has my keys and i have hers. once in a while we'll cat sit for each other when the other is away. it's a great system!
thankfully, we haven't had to get into each other's apartments for emergency purposes.

no one has the keys to my house except the landlord. If i lose my keys, my boyfriend (and roommate) have a set and vice versa. Nothing fancy... I just don't find a need to give a key to all my friends.

My Mom. Which is a blessing...(Mom, can you feed the cats while we're away for the weekend?) and a curse (Hi honey, Just stopped in to say hello, randomly, totally unexpected, while you're busy doing other things)!

Almost every out of town guest forgets to return my spare set - no matter how obnoxious the keychain. So every time a friend visits, I've got to go to the hardware store to make a new set. (grrrr. maybe i need to charge a deposit.)
I've got keys for 6 neighbors' places. 1 neighbor has mine.

We just moved into our new apartment in December, so we don't really know any of our neighbours well enough to trust them. Nor do any of our friends live anywhere near us. So, just my boyfriend and I, and the building manager, of course, have keys.

I have a key to my mom's house and my dad's house, and the only person with a key to mine is my boyfriend, who practically lives with me. If we go out of town, we give a key to either his mom or mine, and they insist on returning it to us when we get back.

My best friend and my son's father each have one. They're the two people I trust most. ;)

my mother and my cousin. sadly i have reservations about my cousin having a set. i was put on the spot one day when he was with me and i was out making a spare set after i'd just got locked out and he suggested that he keep one too since after all we live so close. i didn't have a good excuse on hand to decline so i ended up giving him one. *sigh*

A good friend who lives in my building has a set and I have his. I feed and walk his dog when he's away and he feeds my cat when I'm not home to do it for a few days. It's also very handy if I ever forget my keys - he's already in the building! I wouldn't feel comfortable giving a set to a "regular" neighbor.

I have the keys for: parents, sister, friend with cats.
The people who have my keys are: mom, dad, sister, friend with cats (I have a dog and we swap pet duties), boyfriend.
I don't have boyfriend's keys because he lives in a fancy apartment building in Downtown Long Beach that requires multiple keys and entry cards to access and since they won't give an entry card or elevator key to people who aren't on a lease (stupid if you ask me, BF had to put his son on the lease because of it), there was no point in getting any of the other keys.
I don't have an on-site apartment manager, so the landlords don't have keys. Which is both a blessing and a pain.
My parents also have my spare car key and I have the keys to my BF's cars.

My best friend has my key and I have his.
I also have my ex-boyfriend's key. He asked me to look after it for him out of the blue about a year after we split up, even though he lives an hour away, but INSISTS he does NOT want us to get back together. Boys, huh?

the bf and my ayi ('aunt' in mandarin; basically the title used for your house/office/gym/shop cleaning person here in china). my ayi is more like an actual ayi, cleans and cooks, but also scolds and protects.
the landlords here do not usually hold spare keys on rental apartments, and there are few to go around, so i have no one's. friends and bf only have single sets, or enough for roommates and their ayis.

SD913... change your locks, babe. If you feel that uncomfortable having someone with a spare, change the lock. It'll make you feel better. Smootch!
I have a set for my godsister's home, and her sister's home (before she left the city). I would pick her daughter up from school and keep her at the house, if she and her huz were going to be late at work.
My mom has a spare of my keys. I'm thinking about giving another set to a girlfriend of hers that lives not too far from me. I don't think she surprise me by coming in, making sandwiches and watching television while i'm not there.

I just went through my list recently.
Me, my housekeeper, Abigail, Susan my LA mom, and My friend Ylfa in New York.
Lots of keys out there....But I am so grateful that an ex boyfriend who DID have a key..sent it back to me....and that no current ones have them....
...until I get married ....I think I will stick to that PLAN!
