Shaker Style

The Shakers are known for making simple, durable furniture that has become an American classic. We love some of the timeless pieces that we found in the Shaker Workshops Catalog:

With their simple elegance and classic materials, a lot of the Shaker Furniture reminds us of more modern designs like the classic Nakashima Straight backed Chair. The Shakers have a great reputation for quality and good business practice, investing in Shaker designs is a solid decision. Although the Shaker Workshops company isn't run by Shakers, they seek to "live up to that high standard. We brand our furniture with pride and we guarantee it without hesitation."

a wooden mousepad! i love it.

my parents used to make us all go to the shaker-town/museum every summer when we lived in kentucky. i was 5 and i hated it.

they had awesome rock-candy though.

I found a beautiful shaker tray and boy at Goodwill recently! I agree they have a very modern look.

I love the simple Shaker style.

As anitmatt mentioned there is a beautiful Shaker village in KY (though maybe not to a 5 year old). They sell furniture at... http://www.shakervillageky.org/shop_the_craft_store/

Also the students at Berea College make beautiful Shaker style furniture... http://bereacc.stores.yahoo.net
