We're thinking that recreating Swen Krause's Magnetique Shelf could be an easy DIY project--a sheet of metal and a few shelf display boxes backed with magnets, right? It's so simple, and the shelving combinations are endless! Although if we had one of these in our office, we'd have another reason to procastinate...

I love this idea. Question: could you do this with magnetic paint?

Thats a great idea...is it strong enough that you don't have to always worry about the shelf looking straight and level. Also, being an interior designer, I would recomend doing a stripe of the magnet from wall to wall to really pack a punch! What are the color options?

i want to do something like this in my kitchen. i'm going to take off the tacky vinyl 'wainscot' on the lower half of the wall & replace it with beadboard. at the top, i'd like to run a strip of metal about a foot tall around the top & cap it alternately with crown molding and small shelving (like a plate rail). i think it might be interesting if i alternate the metal with cork (like in bulletin board cork), but i have no idea how to do that. (not that i really have any idea how to do the metal strip, either.)
