Magnetter Key and Letter holder by Umbra

Seeing Abby's post today about the Coat Rack by Loyal loot, we were reminded of this wall shelf/panel/hook-thing? from Umbra. It's called the "Magnetter" and we think it could be a great candidate for a landing strip as well...

It's just a simple piece of bent wood that also has a magnetic key panel. The curved part comes off the wall and creates a perfect niche for your mail. The fact that it's wall mounted frees up any floor space and normal little table would take up. Could be great for small spaces or small entryways. It's $14.00 from the Umbra site, and we've also seen it at the Container Store for $12.99 (and it also comes in a dark wood finish).

Won't it demagnetize credit cards arriving in the mail (or your wallet, if you tuck it in there)?

I really like this. I gotta see if it will still work in the room once the new couch comes. Really simple though, love it.

It seems like the magnet would be right around where the keys are hanging, and probably uses the rare earth magnets (i hope) they're really strong but have a small magnetic field. so your credit cards should be safe.

Interesting Idea... The magnet(s) would need to be pretty strong to hold a keyring with more than a half dozen keys or so... Especially since keys themselves are rarely magnetic.

Keyse - i really like that one, i've seen it a few times in various places. however i think it should be flipped. Wit the keys dangling from the bottom and then the mail slot on the top, right now my keys would dangle in front of the mail, making it annoying to access it.

ellebee - mythbusters busted the credit card/magnet dde-magnetizing myth a while ago. there's no danger whatsoever from magnets.

I'm actually thinking of making my own. It's a relatively simple process of steaming pressed-wood and letting in compress in the form you'd like for a few hours, followed by a few coats of varnish.

Mounting it can be done by drilling two half-way holes in the back and I'd replace the magnetic strip with hooks since we have allot of keys.

I love it's simplicity. Your keys should not be too heavy for it, if so pare down. I just had my ignition repaired and the locksmith gave me that advice because hanging weighty keyrings can put too much pressure on locking mechanisms!
