Pottery Barn's Plasma TV book case

02_07pBplama.jpg As flat screen televisions are more the norm than not, furniture builders are coming up with new and inventive ways to mount and display them. Personally, we like it when it becomes almost a piece of art but we can understand the need to have the old entertainment center revamped. This new piece from Pottery Barn does a nice job in the wood catagory. The Caleb Plasma TV stand $1499

Seems to me that it kinda defeats the purpose of having a flat-screen television, doesn't it?

I agree with Chimay.

I just think all flat screens belong on walls, but that's just me.

In our apt, we would not be able to install our flat screen on a wall, because of the type of wall and the unit's size. So this kind of thing or an armoire is a must.

Ummm....how? It provides additional storage, an easy way to hide cables and a pre-built mounting surface. Not all walls or APARTMENTs have suitable surfaces for hanging a flat screen or making an in-wall cable run.

Way late to this... but, yeah, I don't particularly like this unit, but I agree furniture makers need to get on the ball with solutions. So you hang a flat screen on the wall? Most people then have a console below it (where the television could just as easily sit) with all the components and accessories. Seems like a lot of wasted effort in a lot of cases.

PS The purpose of a flat screen, like a tube, is to watch television.
