There was one booth at Dwell on Design we were completely and utterly drawn to like a moth to a flame. Wilkerson Furniture's booth was filled with attractive chairs, tables and lamps all influenced by a mid-century meets eco-design aesthetic. But it was specifically their M21 Flat Console that had our midcenturist heart pitter-pattering aplenty at first glance. Designer Joe Wilkerson has gotten back to us with some specifics about his eye-catching design....
Wilkerson Furniture at Dwell on Design
The M21 Flat Console is selling for $3,600. Since it is a brand new offering, we are currently selling the initial 100 units as a Limited Edition. All pieces will be signed and numbered by the designer. We offer free delivery in the Los Angeles area and a full range of shipping options if you are somewhere else.
We will offer the M21 Flat Console in two standard sizes – 42” and 50” and those configurations will fit a wide range of screens available in the market. We will have a list of suggested TV models for the standard-size models. At this time, every order is made-to-order, so we will fine tune the inner configurations for customers with existing TVs or who have TVs they intend to use. We will customize the size and shape of the M21 Flat Console as well, which may or may not incur an extra charge depending on the circumstance.The lower grill section is able to be opened from the front and provides the perfect spot for a center channel and some shallow components (SAT/cable box, DVD player).

For solid Walnut and practically custom-made, $3600 is a perfectly reasonable price. You think it should be free?
I'm loving that sofa frame - That design would make a great daybed.

why yes bepsf, that's exactly the point i was trying to make. FREE furniture.. why should i have to pay money for anything? don't be an @$$.. it's a beautiful piece but way out of my price range.

I don't quite hate the bench, but the other pieces are even even less likable. I guess it's all a taste I have not yet acquired. But seriously folk.... am I the only one who finds that TV hideously unattractive at any price? It looks like something from a Joan Crawford horror movie set. And the lamp... who is so low as to rip off Target?
Of course, if I were wealthy enough to afford it, I might have enough class to appreciate it.

I actually saw this in person at the DWELL exhibition and it was really gorgeous. I talked to these guys and some others doing similar amazing woodwork (you MUST blog about Sidecar Furniture...definitely the BEST exhibition there). After designing, making prototypes, start-up costs, investing in incredible materials, advertising, exhibiting, etc., they're making almost nothing on their work, and you're paying for unique art and furniture in one piece. I would GLADLY have paid David @ Sidecar Furniture the $3k he was asking for the sexy desk in his booth!

I agree-- the TV's a kitschy, nostalgic horror. The design's a useless bulky decorative frame from for an otherwise elegantly designed television. Oy!

Considering that these pieces are handmade the price is not unreasonable. These pieces are a lot more impressive in person. The wood bench (which looks much better with a cushion) has an beautifully conceptualized system underneath meant to keep the wood from warping and giving it a thin planned down appearance.
Also I agree with AWeekinParis, The Sidecar furniture booth was impressive.

the shot above of the flat panel does it no justice. I too had a chance to see it in person at the dwell show and it really was a great piece. instead of hanging a tv on your wall you could this piece instead. save the wall for a painting or something else.
the price? seems reasonable for a limited edition of 100.
i also agree about the couch. looks much better in person with the cushion and its very comfortable. not sure why this photo is on here.
