number 5 is soooo awesome. it is not ugly at all! what they need to do is work the room around the sofa!

I have a few pics of my couch on flickr, and for some reason one of the administrators of this contest messaged me and urged me to enter. I replied that I don't think my couch is ugly (it's a Chesterfield upholstered in pink velvet...nothing too offensive, I don't think). Maybe she was trying to give me a hint?

mmadden, I don't think your couch is ugly, in fact it's very nice, and in the right room it would shine like a jewel. And btw, that's not an interrobang, it's a wtf. ;)

The couches in the contest are just not that ugly. Some are outdated, one has colors I don't care for, but honestly, none are hideous. That green one at the bottom with the strange scalloped base is weird but could be interesting in the right room.

For me, the worst couches are beige, overstuffed and/or upholstered in leather. I kinda like these garish 70s couches...their shapes are just fine, and the loud upholstery hides stains/spills well.

This is a GREAT idea for a contest and the award makes it that much better.

However, all I gotta say is take a look at craigslist.org. I've been looking for a sofa for my small NYC apt (settled on a new West Elm Heyward model since it could fit through the small hallways of my building).

IMHO, there are sofas on there that are by FAR uglier than what's listed AND THEY WANT MONEY FOR THEM!!!???

i grew up with #7! my parents had a sofa and loveseat in that pattern!
