Make Your Own Bent Acrylic Lamp

We always thought making bent wood furniture was out of the realm of enthusiast DIY projects, but then we saw this awesome step-by-step Bent Acrylic Lamp project. Rob Edwards of How 2 Point Oh took a $5 piece of scrap acrylic, a $19 pack of Band-It Veneer, a heat gun, an iron and a set of IKEA LED strip lightiong to create his own modernist lamp. There seems like a lot of other possibilities using this same basic technique, so get your heat guns started!

This looks like it wouldn't be too difficult to mock up--some bent tubing and glue and a strip of LED type lights to run along the side (although the original appears to have the lights running inside the tube with holes to let the light out):
