Say poor design, and we might very well mention plastic anti-theft packaging. Vile stuff that takes years to open, killing many of scissors. OpenIt eats the darn vac-pacs for breakfast, slices through packaging tape for lunch and even includes a plus/minus screwdriver for fix-it projects inbetween. [via Core 77]

Those packages ARE vile. I just use a sharp X-Acto knife. A slice here, a slice there, and I'm enjoying my new goodie.

Those packs are actually very well designed, from a certain perspective--that of the store/manufacturer. They prevent people from taking the item out of the package in the store and stealing it! Unfortunately, that doesn't help me, since I order most things online, where that protection isn't necessary.

It would be a huge service for stores that use this packaging to keep a set of these shears at the counter and offer to cut open the packaging after the customer has paid.
