Umbrella Magazine Rack

atla-040108-RMMagRack.jpgThe other day, we blogged Readymade Magazine going digital. We're in awe of their MacGyver section where they challenge their readers to design products from common household items...

With rain predicted for tomorrow's forecast, we're thinking this project from their last issue may be the perfect thing to tackle (and easier on the nerves than driving Los Angeles in the rain). Fashioned from 2 collapsible umbrellas, it'll hold all the magazines you've been meaning to get around to. Maybe, if you finish them in time, you can actually get around to reading them. I wish they'd open up the entries for those challenges on their web-pages, just because they've voted one submission to be the winner and need to limit the printed content to just that one, doesn't mean that they can't keep a gallery of a few of the runner up ideas that just tease us with in the copy for the winning submission.

Personally, I was really underimpressed with the magazine rack, while a lot of the MacGuyver challenges look slick and almost commercial as well as being resourceful in their repurposing, this one just looks like a messy craft project with a broken umbrella. Perhaps it's just the photo staging which looks terrible with that pale pink nylon.
