What inspired you?
When I found this place it needed a lot of work but on a small budget I know knew I could make it my own, even with the ristrictions of being a renter. The kitchen floor was old worn out white lynoleum which I painted and ployeurothaned, many coats but I was able to achieve the look I wanted.

omigawd. luv. luv. luv the bedroom. Name the colors, please. everything works for me except that the bookcases could be a bit tidier, as well as the kitchen cab. This is another do as I say not as I do post.
nice job! and great advice. is that wall in the kitchen painted with the chalkboard paint? i'm also in a rental and thought that would be difficult to do but it looks great!!
please do tell about the colors in your bedroom!
I really enjoy this space too! It feels like something I'd be very comfortable in. :)
I am totally in love with your kitchen. The chalkboard paint is brilliant! I would spend hours there, myself.
I like your Design Tip: Let your apartment refect you as an individual. Don't get too caught up in having it look like a show room, let it tell a story........
because I think people forget this and decorating becomes about what is impressive to everyone else.
I also like the fact that we see your dishes in the dish rack. It means the place is inhabited by humans.
Whoa, momma! This is fan-frickin'-tastic. Judging from the layout, I can pretty much guess which part of Hollywood you are located... Well done! Many of the bungalows in Hollywood are in serious need of some TLC. And you've addressed that in a stylish and very L.A. way. (I'm also quite envious of the light your apartment gets.)
LOTS of great choices.
I soooo envy you bungalow dwellers. So charming.
ANd that bedroom wall color HAS to be called "Milk Chocolate". Deee. Lish.
My only slight bone to pick is that the living room has a LOT of "legs." And while that gets air and light around things, and contributes to your overall airy feeling, I'd like to see one or two pieces breaking that rule.
I like this place a LOT, and I really, really like the hugeness of that blackboard, although it kind of makes me wonder how long it would take it to get nasty with the grease from the smoke from the stove. Then again, maybe you don't cook greasy things?
I love it. And I want to know more about how you did the kitchen floor! The chalkboard paint is delightful, too.
Kudos
swank, yet cozy
nice!
Am I missing something? Where on the sketch is that fabulous bedroom? Otherwise, great kitchen floor. Nice to know it's a DIY job.
Laura: It took me awhile but I found the bedroom. It's not labeled on the floorplan but it's located in the lower right-hand corner, between the living room and the patio.
The kitchen floor took 3 coats of primer, 3 coats of porch paint, teal, and 3 coats of poly. Home Depot.
Chalkboard paint is great used it last 3 apartments. You can get it anywhere.
Brown paint in bedroom can't remember the name, actually thinking I might change it soon.
Have to to thank my mother for the duvet on the bed, she hand knitted it. I designed the pillows and built the ceiling lamp was also hand made.
I apologize for the dishes in the rack and cluttered book shelves, I work 12 to 15 hours a day these days, this is how I really live.
love the kitchen! i really love dark floors, and teal is an unusual choice. i'm also very jealous of your knitting momma.
there is just too much seating here for the scale.
less would be better....the style is beautiful,
it's just a moment away from being stunning.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the picture above the bed. Love the chalk board. I like the dishes and the messy bookshelves, it looks normal. Too many chairs in the living room, it makes the place look crowded.
just wondering, do you just paint over the chalkboard paint when you move (if you're renting)? is it easy to paint over?
thanks!
You've got some great chairs. yeah, i'll say it: Great. Chairs.
You've also got some great work on the wall. I'm wanting to take that black 2 panel peice in your living area.
Great.
I love the chalkboard wall in the kitchen. I've used the paint on smaller areas and think it's genius. I don't get the comment about the grease though from a poster. My kitchen isn't covered in grease ever- I don't cook all that much though.
LUV the chalkboard kitchen (especially with the dishes in the sink -- it's real life and very livable).

Where do you think she lives? That interior looks like it could be anywhere in the Los Angeles county area.
Great design is the intersection between beautiful and fucntional. You've hit that mark wonderfully. Great colors, great pieces and all believably livable!
Can you tell me where you got that three-seater sofa with the teal seat cushions? I adore it! Thaks in advance for the info...
The three seat sofa is my favourite. It is a Brown and Saltzman, made in California, early fifties, I think, I got it while living in NY, got it for free from an ex boyfriend (long story)I saw it listed online awhile back at R20century.com for $6500. Each seat folds down so you can have a side table in the middle or on either end.
Tony G. Just a guess, but this layout looks really familiar to me. I'm guessing it's in one of those small post-war courtyard-style complexes with single-unit mini bungalows that you find peppered in Hollywood/W.Hollywood in the area south of Sunset and north of Melrose between Gower and Fairfax. I believe these style of apartments housed a lot of contract players in the old studio days of Hollywood. And maybe that's why there are so many of them in this area?
(Jennifer, correct me if I'm wrong!)
You just described the kind of complex I live in. I live in EAGLE ROCK though (which is between Glendale and Pasadena and, at least, 4 miles away from HOLLYWOOD).The kind of complex you're describing is extremely prevelant all over the Los Angeles county area. When you claimed to know where Jennifer's apartment was I thought, "Did he notice a street sign through a window?" "Was he able to read her address off a letter on a desk?"
By the way, most are post WWI but pre WWII.
just to settle this think more Beachwood Canyon area. Small bungalow courtyards are hidden every where, mine is suppposedly prewar but not sure
Jennifer:
You live in a great neighborhood! I use to work at the AFI so we would go over to that Mayfair on Franklin and pick up something for lunch. Good luck with the contest. Your place is fabu.
