"Ivar's Simple & Pared Down: To live as both the craftsman and curator of your own space, to distill your home to the necessary tools for living (intimacy, memory, and grace); these are reasons we think Ivar's home is unforgettable."

The slideshow gives a much better feeling for your space than did your initial photos...it looks even smaller! Your home is remarkable. I do not know how you manage to live in such a tiny spot, but your do it with style. The home office in which I type this is 175 sq. ft. larger than your apartmnet, but it's still a disaster of boxesd and junk. A few hesitations..your stairs look far too scary for me, and I do want to put art on the walls of your "slumber" spot. But those are just my personal reactions. Great job!
Wow, half of your place is just windows! I'm such a hider that it would make me feel on display - especially on ground level. But awesome light, I'm sure! Love the kitchen.
hi all, we just noticed that the comments have been split into east and west coast...odd.
but check over here for some additional lively discussion... http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/ny/small-cool-2006-entries/finalist-3-david-ims-onespace-007880
Noticed the split after I had re-posted my comments. Oops! Sorry, all...
This is an elegant, dramatic execution... like the Eames' Case Study House, it is both a place of calm rest and a well-built container for the couple's artifacts. This is truly an integrated space- living, working, and playing in one space. I love that they rely on their artifacts/objects to add texture and color to the space, which leads me to believe that they are very honest about what they own.
This is a winner, not only for efficiency and aesthetic, but for the good life it celebrates- a life in which neither work nor play can exist without the other.
I saw this on tv (ssbs on hgtv I think), really nice way of putting all thsis tuff behind the curtain
