Name: Meredith
Location: Silver Lake, CA
Size & Type: 440 sq. ft. studio
Favorite resource: Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market
Pitch:My lil' apartment is the epitome of bohemian chic on a small budget. I use as many vintage items as possible and often customize pieces to my liking mixing both old and new. The effect is eclectic but consistent. Every item in my house is a little bit of my personality - open, warm, artsy, girly, film fanatic. I have a passion for DIY projects but often my passion for shopping wins.
Pitch Cont'd:
My entire studio is its own unit, a converted guest house from the 1930s. Living in close proximity to great parks, bars, restaraunts and shops, my home is where the action rests. I often host movie nights, barbeques, and impromptu wine tastings. All my guests are impressed by what I can achieve in one studio and always wondering what project I'm going to take on next. It's the perfect little place for me, my friends, and all my stuff.
Your favorite element:
The wooden beams sold me on the place and come to find out they're purely decorative but I still grab them during an earthquake.
Stellar! I love your organization and kitschy attitude with this place!

love it. favorite so far.
it has that "depth" to it that makes a home a home.

Cute! It has personality, but is still stylish.
Having now seen a lot of trendy but sterile apartments, and a few that are cutesy but chaotic, I think this actually strikes a great balance.

I love the Gigi chairs ... they are always fun (and comfortable, too). Perfect pick for a small space.

I'm all for Bohemian and vintage. I like that you color coordinate your books and DVDs. I've been to the Rose Bowl Flea Market. I even looked at a one bedroom house in Silverlake about a month ago.
I like the first photo and the third photo.
I don't like the 2nd photo because there's just too much going on in your bedroom area. If you took all that stuff next to the bed (on both sides) and put it in a small cabinet it wouldn't look so cluttered. Also, that bed quilt is way too busy. Have you ever thought about getting a plain white one?
No? Well, just a bit of unsolicited advice from a fellow Angelino. I'm glad you entered the contest. Good luck.

I really love the first photo, but in the other two my eyes don't really know where to go. I have a feeling this is one that would seriously benefit from better photography.

Pretty cool - has a lot of personality. The patchwork quilt is a little busy though. If you found a duvet that complemented the upholstery of the chairs or the sofa cushions, that would do a better job of integrating the bed with the rest of the space.

Name that capiz lighting element, please.

Frighteningly close to being exactly how I'd want to live if I were younger, much more extraverted, and a resident of Los Angeles... right down to the beige-squareness suddenly breaking out in giant hot pink flowers in the bed area.
So of course I think it's the best thing going :)

Love it! The books- organized by color? Rock on girl. This is an apartment that I want to kick it in, while we drink wine, dish on the boys, and talk about obscure flicks. Total winner!

Thanks everyone! I'm blushing from the positive feedback and great constructive criticism.
*About the bedspread - I have a vintage white chenille embroidered one living under my bed, but I love sleeping on the fabulous colorful one from Anthropologie.
*The capiz light is actually a decorative "bowl" from Target. I scooped it off the deep discount rack and attached it to the cieling with simple hooks. I've seen similar bowls at Pier 1 if you're thinking of doing the same trick.
thanks again!

Brilliant idea for the light. And I like the patchwork quilt--works really well against the brown wall. Love this!

This place does strike good balance between the design extreams we've been seeing. Not to empty, not to full, just right!

Serious kudos Meredith, because I've looked at the $3500 version of those capiz shell light fixtures (that I fell in love with in a design magazine), and that's a GREAT knock-off!!! Those were too large, for my space, and too expensive but finding a bowl that's the right size shouldn't be a problem... THANKS!

Inventive (the bowl-light), fun, personal... reminds me of the attitude of Shauna last year. Love many of the other entries, but this is the first that I could live in and feel comfortable. The beam is fab, too!

I love it! It's cozy and lived-in without being cluttered. I like your color choices too, the brown in the bedroom is lovely.

Love it! Great job with the layout. You've created several cozy zones in one space. The arrangement of the bookcases and TV is very nice. Colors are awsome too, especially on the bed. I'm jealous of the mod chair fabric.

This is absolutely gorgeous. I love it. It's quirky with just the right balance between clutter and organization. It's not so bare that it feels uninviting, but it's not so cluttered that it's overwhelming. I adore this place. I would move in tomorrow.

Great DIY elements, style and personality. It looks like a place you & friends can hang in comfort but also has a little bit of a show off flare (in a good way).
