Small Cool 2009: Cortny's Teeny-tiny Texas Trailer
Teeny-tiny Division #10

thumbs up

Who Lives Here: My husband, myself (and our dog)
Location: Bowie, Texas
Size: 217 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? Our bed that my husband built: it has ample storage underneath, which we desperately need and is level with the windows (good for star-gazing while falling asleep).

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? We have a rule: every piece of furniture must serve at least two purposes, function and storage. we've taken out more furniture than we've put in and tried to recycle or re-use much of the original materials (i.e. the bathroom shelves were drawers). our main resources have been lowes, found items, scrap lumber, and our rudimentary carpentry skills.

RVs can be so generic, but you guys made yours over to be so personal. You even made room for an herb garden! Good for you. I'm impressed.

is that an airstream? if it is, you're so cool. even if it's not an airstream, you're still pretty cool. I love the bed and the way you've reinvented all the built in storage.

Really nice! I don't recall seeing a trailer on AT before, even though they are the quintessential type of small living space in a lot of the country. I really like the pink dog painting over the stove.

thanks for all the nice comments :)
to answer some questions:
we are stationary in an aluminum (1981) avion, not an airstream, but very similar.
the sheepskin is a rug, but i wouldn't let anyone walk on it, so it ended up on the bed! i got it online at overland.com.

I love it and your dog. I totally want an airstreamer to redo one day. My only question is (which i mean in the best way) why do you live in a trailer? You two have such style, think of what you do with more space. :)

loving loving loving the trailer/RV entries... I didn't know these extremely little homes could have such big personalities... kinda like little doggies... p.s. your doggie is super cute. Maybe it should be it's own category next year?

shaunon-
no offense taken! and since you asked, my husband's grandparents are fruit and vegetable farmers and we've decided to continue the family legacy . . . the trailer is only temporary, but has been really fun. plus, who doesn't love a silver trailer?

Wonderfully done trailer. Little curious why it looks like firewood is holding up your bed though.

Very pretty dog - I had one just like it once but it had seizures and died. So the sight made me cry a little.

Thanks for giving 'trailer' living....a whole new respect. They are actually very hard to work with since so much is already set in place and the options are few. You did a fantastic job taking those elements and somehow transforming them into such a great living space.

I love this so much - I've always wanted to live in a big aluminum trailer, a la Airstream. I voted for you with a VERY resounding click of my mouse, you guys are awesome. This is much cooler and about a bazillion times more unique than all of the boring 'magazine modern' apartments that populate this site. Cheers from Indiana!

Your place and Jay's Tumbleweed are two of the best in the contest. With him out, I clicked extra hard for you!! Your place has a wonderfully personal charm. And who doesn't want to snatch up your pup!! Very sweet.
But yes, why the firewood under the bed? Is it a faux wall??

The "logs" are about 4" long and attached to removable panels (they were someone elses trash). Inspiration for the bed is/was the artwork by Ursula von Rydingsvard.
