apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Small Cool 2009: Denise's Reflective Quality
International Division #15

thumbs up

Who Lives Here: me + 1
Location: Singapore
Size: 431 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? The see-through or glowing or reflective quality of the dark glass cupboard doors, shiny floor tiles, dividers give a slightly unearthly dimension to my little home - like there's another world floating beyond the walls and floors. But the apartment is anchored by warm furry throws on the benches and dividers, and the rougher texture of the tiles of the sunken bath.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? I constantly fight the urge to buy more things. I help myself by living vicariously through websites such as Apartment Therapy, so I won't actually "buy buy buy"...or at least buy very selectively :D

I feel like all I know about this apartment is that the owner has a cool chair! Lets have some lights on and different shots!

I really like the chair, too. For what its worth.

This looks cool. I think some better photos might show it off better.

I think the photos just don't do it justice and don't show the whole space. From what ya can see, though, it looks good!

How does that work, having a flat screen TV mounted to the door of a cabinet?

a little too dark and vague to have an opinion about it.

I agree that it's a little vague. There's a lot of nice stuff happening but I wonder if it works together. It's definitely a bit of a sleek harem kind of look with touches of modernism and Paris... But I'd like to see re-submitted photos that emphasize the layout a little more.

It looks haphazard at this point.

That hallway leading to the bathroom looks neat. I have no idea what those pillows on the left is. A floor bed?

And I'd love to see a straight on shot of the vanity and mirror. Also, what is going on that kitchen? Go take a photo from around that light. We don't need to see that light in the foreground. It's just blocking all the stuff I'm curious about: countertops, cupboard layout etc...

Dark & messy...I don't find this place attractive at all.

Unique home with interesting elements: love the Ghost Chair and the reflective floor living room. Are those glass panels in the folding screens? Shower area looks chic -- would like to see more of the bathroom. Great entry!

So many high end touches and yet so little impact. I can't tell if the photography doesn't do justice to the space or if the design doesn't do justice to the individual elements. Would be interested to see more.

Agree with some other posters that the pictures probably don't do it justice since they are so dark. Still, you have LOTS of cool stuff, that chair, the shower and the most wonderful shiny floors I have ever seen. I really like your place....I just wish we could see more of it.
