Small Cool 2009: Raddlesnack's Second Chance Charm
Tiny Division #45

thumbs up

Who Lives Here: Me and my dog "Mouse".
Location: Los Angeles, California
Size: 395 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? I live at the top of 80 stairs. It gives me a great workout and a great view, not to mention it is very quiet up here off the street.

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? I actually entered Small Cool in 2007 with the same house. I had just moved in and barely had any furniture, now after 2 years of living in my space it finally feels close to being finished. Pretty much all the furniture in my house was given to me by friends and family or bought for under 10 dollars at a thrift store. My biggest challenge is painting. I really want to but never seem to get around to it. I feel like it would make a big difference so hopefully by next years contest I will have that finished. Also, pet hair. . .I love the orange couch my friend gave me, but the fabric is impossible to remove hair from.

I love the artwork around the place and that precious drawer set that's in the bathroom... I wish I had thought of that! lol

Oh, not to mention every other piece of furniture is something I can drool over.

Charming. Your bedroom looks so peaceful. I like the white paint actually. But maybe it just photographs well and color would be more fun?

So personable and real--very well done.

Finally, someone dares to show a real workspace with a printer, scanner, office supplies, the ubiquitous white cardboard boxes....

Also, I love the framed drawing in the bathroom over the sweet little chest. And Mouse's bedroom is perfect--but where do you sleep? On the orange couch? : )

Wow, I went back and checked out your entry from '07 and you've come a long way baby! No dirty dishes in the sink this time : )

It's lovely, light and airy, and I bet you have GREAT legs from all the stairs. Paint schmaint, I like it white!

This place is awesome, it should definitely win for the Tiny Division. I'm envious of those who can take second-hand objects are really make it work and you've done a fantastic job. It's cool, fresh and fun; I love how bright the space is. It's so refreshing to see someone really create an amazing space with such restrictions. Love, love, love!!!!

Yes, where did you get your rug from?

thank you everyone for the nice comments!! much better than last time. ha!

-yes, the rug is from IKEA (thank you aunt sally for the gift certificate)

"visualingual" - the art on my bedroom wall i found in a thrift store it is made with felt. not sure the origins.

"amandaPlease"- the couch was given to me by a friend. it is a vintage (60's?) designer couch. i don't know which designer though. i want to eventually reupholster it in baby blue vinyl. so i can just sponge away mouse's hair. at the moment i have to use almost a roll of gaffers tape to "de-mouse" it.

"FilthyMcNasty" - i sorta agree with you on the bathroom. i'm not sure why you think it is scary but i almost didn't take the place because of the bathroom. the sink is old and weird and same with the bathtub. i like the vintage hexagon tiles but they are not in the best shape either. . .

"Joan52" - i will get right on training mouse to ride the tricycle. ha!

I love the bright colors against the wood and the white. It makes the whole space feel very cohesive. This feels like a real home with personality, not like it was furnished for no one in particular by professional stagers.

Just curious, does that kilim rug feel soft to touch?
I like it so much here, I want to get one myself...but I hate scratchy material under my feet.

You are Top Gun...

Maverick: Tower, this is Ghost rider requesting a flyby.

I really like this place namely for all the personal touches from the hand towel over the cabinet to the boots and yoga mats (?) by the door. This shows clean, classy, *real* living that I can relate to. And I had that doggie pattern pillow years ago... love it.
