...store champagne! Still used today, bottles are placed on special racks called pupitres during the aging stage. This places the bottles at a 45ยบ with the cork pointed down and turned every day. This style of storage has easily transferred to every day home design and riddling racks available all over. Part wine storage and part art display.

Nice looking piece, Sam. Only thing I'd change about the description is that submerging the corks doesn't prevent corking (which is when the cork contains a chemical that taints the wine), it prevents the cork from drying out and losing the seal (which can lead to prematurely oxidized wine).

Sigh! I would love love love a riddling rack, they're so gorgeous. But they're very expensive (especially if you get the real vintage ones and not reproductions) and huge! I can only dream of a living space where I could fit one. Maybe when I'm super duper rich I'll line my wine cellar with them. Until then...
