AT reader Lara, reminded us of an OC based online store that sells beautiful mid century pieces. OCmodern.net owner Joshua Zimber explains that they "offer an an unusual, and consistently changing selection fo vintage danish, american, and european furniture and accessories at very competetive prices." Althought they do not have a traditional storefront, they run their business through their home based showroom in Huntington Beach.
They offer very personal service and will show the pieces by appointment, and with very flexible hours. They also ship nationwide, and for LA area customers, will even personally deliver. They generally update the site around 2-3 times a week. You can view their latest finds via their "latest updates" section. You can also find some of their pieces on Ebay (ebay id: ocmodern)
AT:LA's own Vanessa (aka Turquoise) also recommends them and says "Josh and Laurie are the nicest people as I have bought from them before." They can be contacted any time via email at ocmodern (at) hotmail (dot) com.
They also sell at the Long Beach Flea Market, third Sunday of every month. Nice people.
I will echo the statements of praise for ocmodern.net and Joshua Zimber. I have purchased two items from the store (and been tempted to buy several more), and both the items and the merchant were the best. A nicer, more honest and more accommodating seller would be hard to find. Josh makes a point of noting even very minor blemishes in his goods, and for the beautiful stuff he sells the prices are more than reasonable.
You don't run into people who are this nice and honest very often. A lot of dealers in Los Angeles are always out for the buck, but not these folks.
I've never been to the store before... I'll have to stop by. The first rocking chair looks amazing.
