ATLA On The Town: DWR's Tools For Living Store Opens in Santa Monica

100208-tools01.jpgLast night, we were invited to attend the launch party for Design Within Reach's new accessories store, Tools for Living, which opens its doors today in Santa Monica. The New York outpost of the store opened last week and, as Jill blogged over on ATNY it's full of stunningly beautiful yet fully functional items for the home that are elegant in their simplicity. From an ironing board carved from wood to a filtered water pitcher to the Caravaggio oversized lamps we've fallen in love with this year, these are truly tools for living...and living well. Check out some of our favorites, including a slide show, after the jump...

100208-tools02.jpgWe've blogged the Flocks ottoman, each of which is hand-knit. We've got our eye on the small one and love that each item includes details on the particular sheep (or sheep) from which the wool was shorn.

100208-tools04.jpgDWR's take on the filtered water pitcher employs stones and charcoal which last for six months. Elegant and economical, it could easily sit on the most formal dining table. We like that it echos our French press coffee maker.

100208-tools03.jpgRaw linen in any form is like catnip to us. Even more so when it's fashioned into beautifully crafted items like this simple change purse, just the right size for a credit card, a drivers license and a couple of bills. Also available: aprons, cutlery rolls, tea cosies, pot holders, tablecloths. A leather key cap is a quietly luxurious way to differentiate your keys.

Isn't anyone going to point out that sitting in the middle of all of those consumer lemmings is the great Julius Shulman?
