Wende blames her messy bed on her new cat.
ebrown sounds very Zen about it all, stating,I make my bed every day because I need an island of sanity in the sea of activity. I don't rebel against it; I embrace it.
stephanie admits, Am I the only person who doesn't really ever make her bed and yet wants others to think she always does?
Nocturna had a great response, suggesting that it might be better to not make the bed, writing, I read that it's actually healthier to leave your bed unmade. It airs out the sheets.

Made beds are winning but not by much if you include almost always. Actually, this surprise me; I exected unmade bed to win.
I'd like to say I make the bed every day but I'd be lying. I only make it when someone will notice. Much to do and little time as is true for many. Some say an made bed induces quality sleep at night when you pull down the covers and slide into the sheets. Now that I live alone, I don't really care and am leaning toward the theory of airing out the sheets during the day. I'm much more obsessed with clean bathrooms and kitchens. Choices to make with little time in one day.
I agree, jmareib, that it's simply about choices when we have so little time in each day. Each of us decides what we must do and what we like to do in the time we have. I should mention that one factor in my bedmaking is the pile of boxes filled w/paper that my partner keeps in the bedroom and which never seems to get smaller. I consider those boxes "decor" and bring the order to the space that I need without needing to control every square inch.
ebrown: I loved your post. The boxes as decor. Reality is sometimes far from what we want but life is to be lived. You are so right. And control, well, sometimes I think people try too hard for control. Nice post. I happen to be clean, clean and mostly neat but I like to call some of my things "Intellectual Clutter". I wouldn't think of changing it. If I had an "empty" room, I would feel as though I didn't have a life.
Have a good weekend.
I think (morbidly) that you never know when your time is up. When I see shows like Law & Order with the cops going into the victim's home I think "what if I didn't make my bed and I go out and well, this IS NYC after all!" I've reached the point where if I think about not making the bed I'm convinced that this is the day something terrible will happen to me and strangers will be going thru my apt. thinking "man, what a slob." I know - it's a sickness.
I make my bed most of the time but before I do I throw the sheets way back, violently fluttering (hah, a violent flutter) the sheets, cover, and pillows. Those nasty dust mites don't stand a chance in my warm, but aired out bed. Hey, If I can't stay in it neither can they!
eek anne, i bet you don't step on cracks either!
ok - I am just silly but we make it right before we go to bed because I hate to feel all the bumps and wrinkles and cannot sleep if it is not well made - If I had brains I would do it in the morning so when to coroner came the room would look good...
We make our bed every morning. It's SO fast and easy and it just makes the room feel "done" when we leave in the morning (even if I don't actually leave the house). Also, I think it's nice to get INTO a made bed at night.
