Reader Survey: How Many Pillows Are On Your Bed?

atla-022808-pillows01.jpg Tuesday's blog on The 10 best Natural Pillow Alternatives has us jonesing for some of those kapok pillows. On our own bed we have four Queen sized feather-and-down-mix pillows, two per side. Simple. Utilitarian. But we're always curious about those people who have the whole pillow look going on...

You know: the neck rolls, some round pillows, maybe one of those things with the arms for reading in bed, a cute little square pillow with a saying on it or long needlepoint pillow with a bird silhouette. But then, the question of who's going to be reponsible for arranging all of those pillows during our already chaotic morning puts a full stop to our pillow dreams. That, and the fear of tumbling over the fine line between inviting and psychotic. So, we'd like to know: how many pillows do you have on the bed?

I may be the only one to respond this way: During the day I have four pillows on my bed. Two sleepers, two for decor (they're part of a set).

But I sleep with NO pillow. Pillows hurt my neck. Before I go to bed I just put my pillows on my armchair. I may try a very soft and small neck pillow, though.

Anyone else not sleep with a pillow? :-

Ooh, I'm jealous. I want 9 pillows!
I currently have 5, though it used to be 6. I'm in the need for some new pillows all together though.

Eight, I think. Let's see:

2 in shams.
2 non down for my husband.
3 down for me. ( I like different heights, etc on different nights and at different times.
1 silk, also for me. (A wonderful indulgence which helps with head heat.)

Six, we sleep with two each and I have two European sized pillows for decorative purposes. Actually, I won the two larger ones through Apartment Therapy during the last holiday give-away season!!

6
3 per side, on each side there is one that kind of tucks between the bed and the wall to keep the others from scooting through the crack in the night - one decorative and one for sleeping.

4, currently ALL MINE. i can't afford those big cool euro pillows and shams. all the pillow shams i see are like $30 EACH. weird. plus, they'd just sit on the floor all night anyway, for reals.

I used to have two, one for me and one for current boyfriend, then the most recent boyfriend demanded two for himself and it looked lopsided, so it is now four.

This just begs for a "the children in Africa have NO PILLOWS TO SLEEP ON!!" comment.

But 9 pillows. Good heavens. 10? Anyone have 10?

I have three at the moment, and that feels like too much, though all need to be replaced.

I can't believe 9 is such a common number, I remember a few years ago I was walking with a hotel manager and he was so proud while telling me they were upgrading from 6 to 10 pillows per king size bed, that that was now 5 star standard... I thought he was nuts then, they're probably rounding out at 20 by now.

Seven:
--2 giant square European pillows to lean against when sitting up in bed
--4 regular pillows in two different sets of shams, partly for looks and partly to provide more flexibility in pillow use
--1 round ornamental pillow to complete the color scheme

5

2 memory foam for sleeping
2 big firm white ones on top of those
1 sheep-skin pillow in the middle

anything more than that seems ridiculous.
