My friend recently bought a rustic wood dining table for her modern space. She included a just a few rustic accents to tie in the look and it works. It got me thinking about wood tables and their appeal in a more natural wood grain look versus a more refined finish...

My wife and I love our table. It's heavy, blocky, and rustic used pine. We just ordered it from a guy on Craigslist (Chicago). He took our inspiration photo, which we found on AT's Small Cool, and he duplicated it for only $350, and delivered it 50 miles to our door. We have black Eames shell chairs, and canary yellow steelcase chairs. Looks awesome!

I have a VERY large console table made of old rustic wood railroad ties held together with black iron crossings. The iron makes it look more modern, and with a white drum pendant hung over it, modern black, silver, & white picture frames resting on it, a slightly rustic statue of a Buddha, and two very large modern candlesticks, I feel like it works in my more modern space.

There's a place for both styles - even within the same room.

rustic can sometimes veer into industrial which will often work in a modern home though not every and all.

For a long time, I dreamed of having a dining room table made of reclaimed barnwood. Then I found our retro, aqua blue formica table and decided I couldn't pass it up. I love it, but I do sometimes long for a barnwood table too...
