In our small space, we use two zebra ottomans that double as coffee table and also extra seating when we need it. While we love the cushioned vibe of the ottomans to rest our feet, it's not conducive for cocktails or glasses of any kind. We've picked up a few tips for turning an ottoman into a functioning table.
Consider using a C side table in addition to your ottoman. Simple slide the C table under your ottoman to create a surface. When you don't need it, move it to the side of your couch and - voila - a side table.
A serving tray is a great way to turn an ottoman into a table-top surface. There are tons of serving tray options. This is a fun way to add another pop of color to your space.
A simple board. We had dinner at a friend's house recently and she had a custom couch and ottoman made to fit her small space. She had a piece of bamboo board cut to the size of her square ottoman and she rests it there often, placing magazines and an occasional glass or vase of flowers on it. When she's ready to lounge, she stores the board under the couch.

I have an ottoman with a serving tray on it - it's a coffee table, seat, and storage all in one. I love that. Especially since my living room is TINY.

We tried an ottoman as a coffee table/footrest - not even a serving tray is stable enough for more than one drink.

"When she's ready to lounge, she store the boar under the couch."
I believe you meant "she storeS the boarD." Although a store that sells boars might be cool!

I love ottomans!!!!! I just bought a tray to use on ours for drinks. I also have a rolling end table from Ikea that we roll in front of the sofa to eat on. It save the ottoman from spaghetti stains and is at a better height. i just roll it back to the side of the sofa when we are finished eating.

Those C tables are great for big sectionals, too. If you're sitting in the middle, you can have a good sturdy surface to rest your drink on. I'm a fan.

Does anybody know where you can get the c table in the picture above? All the tables discussed in comments are higher and don't fit snug to an ottoman.
