Flip Table Set

032608fliptable.jpgIf you've been looking for a table to entertain with, but don't have the room to have a full set of chairs out all the time, this Flip Table Set could be a good option...

It has a double drop-leaf table top, and comes with 4 folding chairs. The chairs stow inside the table when not in use. When all closed up, it could also act as extra counter space. It's $319 for the set, available from Tinyliving.com. Click here for all the specs and info.

I wish there were more of these with solid sides and drawers in the center like the IKEA Norden. I either see sets like these (and I don't need the chairs!) or old english style pub like gatelegs. Sigh... My search for the perfect drop leaf/ gateleg table is still on going...

I own this set. It is a great idea but the chairs are a little tippy and uncomfortable and the veneer quality is so-so.

This set was a little too precarious for me, too, so I settled on the IKEA Norden and am quite happy with it. It's a solid piece of furniture. It's folded up and used as my landing strip and open it up when I'm having a dinner party, or just open one side up to seat two. It does leave four dining table chairs floating around my multipurpose front room, though, with no room for any other kind of chair ...

Calligaris has two of this sort, one that stores chairs underneath and another that doesn't. The Olivia pocket and the Spazio. No, I don't work for them, but I did check out some of their stuff (we were more interested in the Flexy/Eleven sort of table). I liked the one without the chairs better, for what it's worth.

Arggg. I was looking at this table and I couldn't find a US supplier (280 British Pounds plus shipping was an insane price). I broke down and bought something at Ikea *last night*.

I ended up fashioning something similar out of two Ikea Muddus tables. You can arrange it many different ways for wide or narrow a "table". All the chairs at Ikea are just slightly too wide to neatly fit under the narrow side of Muddus so my search continues.

I bought an expresso/wenge version of this table from Target last year ($229.99, type "spacesaver table" in the search box) and I've been very happy with it.

I did need to return the first table they shipped me tho - one of the gates had a large crack - but Target arranged for UPS to come and pick it up and shipped me another one right away.

It's used most of the time as a console table, with the leaves up when I need an extra work surface or company is over. The chairs are serviceable. I definitely wouldn't use them for long term seating, but they've been useful as overflow seating in a party/buffet situation.
