Mercer Dining Table from Williams-Sonoma

mercer-dining-table-1-12-07.jpgThis Mercer Dining table from Williams –Sonoma does something to us that we cannot explain.

It is not our style. It is trendy in a way that we usually loathe. At $1400-$1600, it is out of our price range. Yet we just love it. Every time we see it, it makes us grin. Flipping through the Williams-Sonoma Christmas catalogue last night confirmed our feelings. We are in love with this table.

Niiice. I think the 'love' can be explained in part by the traditional shape/design of a trestle table with the modern materials of metal and glass.

That's usually the formula that defines things that I like:

Traditional design + Modern materials = Love
or
Modern design + Traditional materials = Love

Those equations also tend to equal 'unaffordable'

Pottery Barn has a very similar writing desk. I was actually admiring it in store just yesterday! It is definitely smaller, but otherwise the proportions and the materials are very similar. Tried to find it online but couldn't. It is $699 in store.

olya--
Yes, I've lusted after the PB writing desk too! But I believe it is only in the stores that carry their premium furniture line.

God, I love this also. It's just perfect. Nice trestle table, glass top. I'd prefer it in black or the same but with a matte finish.

This table is perfect for my antique chairs. Too bad it's too large for my place.
