Here's an excellent high end idea that we'd love to see brought down in scale and price for us small space dwellers: Poggenpohl's Dining Desk incorporates two slim dining tables that open to reveal a central kitchen unit that includes customizable options hidden away, such as a cooking element, a cutting board, and trolly access. It's like a modernist Benihana teppan setup for the home, but makes perfect sense for easy and compact dining.

I have always used some type of table as a desk. Now I am using an antique drop leaf table. I have two work stations, computer on one end, paperwork at the other end. I love it. I can't imagine sitting at an enclosed space.
My largest desk was a 14' long dining table, with two leaves. I got it for $100 at auction. I loved that desk, but it took a freakin' library to use it. And computers have gotten a lot smaller.

In theory this is a pleasant enough solution, but the prospect of dining at such a corporate presence would make dinner a rather bleak prospect. It certainly does not in any way reflect the fact that food can be a pleasure and that dining with friends is a joy.

The cooking elements, cuttins board etc. makes no sense in the middle of that desk. How to use that stuff when there is 40cm - 50cm desk between you and it? Almost impossible!
Should be at one side of that desk and should use some kind of fliptable solution instead of sliding.

Cool idea, but I don't see why anyone would want a cooktop in the middle of their dining table.

It seems clever at first glance, but counters and tables/desks are 2 different heights. This looks to be a table height counter which would make it kind of low and uncomfortable to use as a kitchen counter/workspace.
