Bodum Housewares- giving up bad design for good.

logo.gifWe are all over Bodum's selection of housewares. They have a really good, clean-lined selection of dinnerware that is wickedly functional, simple and elegant, and shockingly well priced.

surlatableglassesaug.jpgWe like the double wall glasses which work to keep your hot drinks hot without burning your hands (Around $12 ea), and the square/round dinnerware, which gives a great shape to a simple and stylish place setting.

Some places like Crate and Barrel sell Bodum's Canteen glasses as well. Same function and design. I heard they are excellent.

Those Bodum Double Wall glasses are cool, but they are way too fragile. I've had two, and they each got hairline cracks within a week, even though I handwashed them and was very gentle with them. Both of times, the fractures started around the lip of the glass, which kind of makes taking a sip unpleasant.

If you put ice in these glasses, drop it in gently, because these things can't take the slightest stress!

We bought 12 of these double glasses an year ago. Used these to serve very hot tea, cold shakes without any problems. Our guests often think that these are made up of plastic as they are so light. Excellent Design!

Although I have a thoroughly lovable Bodum Santos clear orange coffee maker (and watching it make the coffee is a hoot), I'm kind of soured on Bodum glass goods. Mugs tend to crack easily, and I once bore down a little too hard on the handle of a Bodum coffee press, and it shattered and cut up my hand!

So I agree with D. Jenkins: if you get these glasses, be mighty careful with them!
