Ten Things I Love: From Beth's Apartment

031009bethsfavthings.jpgLast week we kicked off a new series of posts called "Ten Things I Love" with eleven elements from Laure's apartment that she picked out as favourites. We're back this time with Beth and her handpicked personal favs (and we took note of your feedback and put this into a gallery presentation with captions alongside a list form below the jump)...

White Starburst Vintage Desk: I found this at the local thrift store (and at the time, I was desperately in need of a desk). It wasn't as functional as I would have hoped for (so I had to replace it) but couldn't bear to let it go. It now hangs out in my kitchen.

Vintage Couroc Tray: This vintage Couroc tray is from my grandparent's home. It was one of the decorative pieces that always stood out to me as a child and I'm glad it found its way into my apartment.

The practical washer/dryer duo: I had to pick this duo as one of my top 10 favorite things. I received the washer/dryer combo as a very big surprise gift last year for my birthday (and it brings me much joy). Not only for the productivity it lends to my schedule but the sound they make when they're in use--a cozy feeling that reminds me of home.

DIY glass table: This table was a freebie when my previous roommate bought a couch at St. Vincent de Paul's. The table top was in poor condition so I decided to get a piece of glass cut for the top and painted it a robin's egg blue.

Vintage Modern Couch: I had been salivating over this couch for most of the summer when I finally decided to purchase it last Fall. I love the lines and the tweed but mostly because it's a pull-out couch for guests.

Shell Collection: This is only a small percentage of my great grandmother's shell collection. Over sixty years old, the shells come from Edisto Beach on the East Coast.

Record Collection: My preferred way to clean the house is to put on my favorite records at a high volume.

Over-sized lamp: I love oversized lamps--and this one was a steal for $7 at St. Vincent's.

Vintage Mirror (from armoire): I have the hardest time photographing this full length mirror (the appeal is more apparent in person). Found for $20 at a thrift store in Burbank--a non-traditional approach to a full length mirror in the bedroom

I love that almost everything was found at a thrift store!! Gives me hope that I can also get great stuff for my apartment without spending hundreds of dollars.

I'm also going to start a shell collection like this now. :]

I love the mirror she's using underneath her laptop. I'd say she should keep it there.

At first glance I thought the table's glass was colored (the blue is perfect for that brushed glass look), but the fact that it's an illusion makes it that much better! I'm definetly trying that one out.

Did you backpaint the coffee table glass or paint the table top?

Beth, seeing as how you are the organizing guru, do people ever come over and move stuff around or untidy things to see if you notice?

I totally agree with her on the homey feeling the sounds of the washing machine and dryer give. Both laundry and dishwasher sounds remind me of home, and we don't have either in our apartment :(

That looks like a nice record collection. Is that Sunny Day Real Estate LP2 on the right?

@whippy; I painted the underside of the glass
@seaside; if they do, I've never noticed
@matthewhambrick; yes, it is and thanks--It's small but packs a punch

I always respect small, choice collections. I have around 1000 and a lot of music gets lost in the shuffle. For example, I probably haven't listened to How It Feels to Be Something On for like six months - just because it is stuck between other great albums and seldom gets pulled.

Respect.
