apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Fall Cure: Week 6

11-8-six.jpgWeek 6 is here: let's take it down a notch. We've been racing through these weeks and getting a lot accomplished but this week we can relax and focus on giving the bathroom (s) a nice deep clean, buying some soap we love and replacing anything that's worn out (toothbrush, towels, shower curtain, etc). Then...light a candle and take a bath.

This Week's Assignment:
In the deep treatment the overall theme is peacefulness. As you clean out your bathroom(s), I want you to get to a point where you are able to put some calming luxury back into them. If you don't have them already, there are some purchases to be made here that can change your bathroom experience. And as you soak in the tub give lighting a thought as it could be the single most important aspect of interior design in the home.

In cleaning out your bathroom here are some things to think about:

• How old are your razors and shaving cream?
• Do you like your soap?
• Can you reach your shampoo?
• Can you see out of the window?
• Do you have cozy towels? And bathmat?
• How's the lighting in the bathroom?
• Girls, how old is your mascara? If it's older than 3 months, replace it!

In the One Room Remedy take a good look at the lighting in your home. Most homes are under lit and most that seem drab or uninspired could be turned around simply by addressing the lighting alone. Don't be afraid to take some risks! Lighting can be very affordable and different kinds of lights will really make your home leap to life. Oh, and there's some painting to do this week for some. Enjoy our small tutorial on how to paint a room. It's basic, but we find that it always helps to remember it when we're painting a room.

Info:The Cure posts will go up twice a week on Mondays and Fridays allowing for plenty of comment space. We will be pulling comments and pics to the front page post each week and everyone is urged to take pics and post them to this great Flickr pool or simply tag them with "apartmenttherapycurela." See our old pics here too.

abby--I'm totally impressed with all the work you're doing! I'd like to quit my job to work on my apartment full time...

OK: you've convinced me. The only one who has used my make-up in the last year has been my seven year old daughter. Last year I wondered if I should get rid of it. So I guess I will. (sigh). I'd really like to wear it, but I can't stand stuff on my face every day.
