apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Through My Window, literally. Damn Kids!

061608_brokenwindow.jpgAhhh, the days of being seventeen and a newly-minted graduate of high school. Before knuckling down to the terrors of the real world and all the bills that come with it, there's that heady three-month break where it's okay to go buck wild. Sure, I can understand it. But when I wake up on a Sunday morning at 3 am to discover an egg plastered to a cracked window outside my house, I'm going to be pissed enough to press charges, punks!

Exhibit A: The Eggshell. Wonder if there are any fingerprints on it...?
Apparently, a few giddy kids decided to ring in their newfound maturity by chucking eggs at houses on my street. As luck would have it, mine was the only one with a window broken (although many neighbors complained about eggs staining their stucco, and in case this happens to you, here's some tips on how to remove it).

As I write this post, the window pane is being replaced (thanks Armando!) and my window screen is drying in the backyard (ugh, dried raw egg). Some neighbors are talking about installing motion sensor lights to their front yards, and there's a bit of uneasiness around this otherwise tranquil block. As one neighbor put it, "Can't wait until those damn kids grow up and get their own houses egged!" I wisely shut my trap and hosed off the egg splatter, thinking back to one particular night in 1997 that involved a Costco-sized economy pack of toilet paper and very alluring trees in a neighbor's yard. Man, karma is a bitch.

That's an oxymoron if I ever read one...

Maybe you can camouflage the egg with some $6200 garden accessory and post about it again next week.

great post (sorry that happened though)

"...thinking back to one particular night in 1997 that involved a Costco-sized economy pack of toilet paper and very alluring trees in a neighbor's yard. Man, karma is a bitch."

This reminded me of senior year in high school. A few friends and I decided to tp our favorite photography teacher's house (actually was our favorite - it wasn't to be rude, it was to be funny). Well, we got there and were surprised to find a sign in his front yard:
"God is watching
Ansel is watching
and I am watching"

dumbfounded, we still thought it was a good idea to go ahead with the tp

and we thought we pulled it off. He didn't say anything, or hint at anything.... until the last day of school. We all came to class, and he announced "as a special treat, we'll be watching a movie today"

The guilty party just sat in the back of the class, embarrassed beyond belief..... as the rest of the class watched a home video our teacher made - of us caught in the act toilet papering his house......

karma.. sometimes it's just funny. ;)

I agree with Erica, though at least now you can claim to have experienced a beastie boys song.
