Top 10 Stylish Sectionals & Sofas From Austin and Beyond

There is seating that oozes style and sophistication and there are couches worthy of snuggling up on for a 3 hour nap, but finding a sofa that is both hip and comfy can be a challenge. Even worse, finding a sectional that meets that criteria and fits into a smallish space may seem impossible. It has been a while since we have featured sectionals, so we obligingly offer 9 sectionals + 1 convertible sofa . . .

The bumper sectional featured in our recent post on the best green paint stirred up so much interest that it was the inspiration for this updated list. We visited our favorite Austin furniture stores to seek out the best of the bunch locally, but all these sofas are also available at any retailer carrying these brands.

  • Bumper Sectional by Younger - So comfortable and so perfectly styled with boxy, tufted cushions on the back and the option of tufted or not on the seat ($2530 and up). Younger is a domestic company that produces some of the best quality, detailed work for a realistic price.
  • Astoria Sectional by American Leather - A two tone option available in fabric and leather with buttonless tufting (price varies).
  • Bonnie and Clyde by Blu Dot - We love the name and the partnership of the two lean, mean loveseats that can also be used separately ($1868 and $1208).
  • Jane Bi-Sectional by Gus Modern - Sturdy, solid and once again. . . tufted ($3235)
  • Venice Sectional by American Leather - We sat on this sofa in a lovely caramel leather and it was like sitting on a melting pat of butter (or so we imagine). It's pricey but spurge-worthy if you can swing it ($9360 as pictured).
  • Circle Sectional by Younger - Sweet and sassy, this curved sofa creates an intimate conversation nook ($2979 and up).
  • Grace Sectional by Younger- Simple and sinkable, as in sink-your-butt and leave it in the down cushions (approximately $3199).
  • Carter Sectional by Gus Modern - Classic and clean, this sofa is always a good idea ($2780).
  • Corbin Sectional by American Leather - A small scale sectional that is big on party seating (price varies from leather to fabric). We can imagine sparking conversation around this sofa at our next cocktail party.
  • Flat Out Sofa by Blu Dot - Bonus sofa because we could not pass up this adorable convertible sofa that makes a guest room unnecessary (thank goodness). The details are killer, like French seams and cross-stitching, making us love Blu Dot even more ($1099).

Austin Resources:
Blu Dot and Gus Modern are available at IF+D, and it's worth checking out their website just to read owner Kristen Bolling's slightly sarcastic commentary.

Younger can be found at long-time local store, Urban Living.
Chic and modern, Collectic Home offers American Leather and other great brands.

Your turn . . . tell us your new sofa lust object or your long time couch love.

Hmmm... the Jane Bi-sectional MSRP is $2950. Whoever quoted $3535 is trying to rip someone off.

GUS at $3500 is way over priced for a chinese made sofa-we bought the BYWARD from G.ROMANO for $2500 from Floorplan and it was shipped in less than 3 weeks in the fabric we selected-we also sat on the DUBLIN from the same manufacturer it was all down and feather, and eco friendly

Funny, I was wondering about that sofa in the green paint post too. Thanks for posting more info on it. It looks great.

The picture for the "Jane Bi-Sectional" is actually the Carter Sectional, also by Gus Modern.

2Modern has the Jane Bi-Sectional for $2950-3029.
AllModern has it for $3245 and Bobby Berk Home has it for $3185. Our source in Austin, IF D, actually sells the sectional for $3235 (sorry about the typo above) and the Jane sofa for $1950.

I should've known the one I liked would be nearly $10k. :(

Etta Modern on Modabode is a petite, inexpensive sectional available for $1474: http://www.modabode.com/Etta_Modern_Microfiber_Sectional_Sofa_(Couch)_Set_with_Chaise_AEF100155.html?emap=50
We believe that you usually get what you pay for and that it is risky to make a big furniture purchase without sitting on the piece or getting lots of feedback from other consumers. EQ3 does have less expensive sofas that we have tried but it was clear that the quality was not the same as Younger, which is not badly priced.

I have the Carter sectional, as do a handful of my friends, and it is awesome. Great fabric, great construction, you can fit 2 families on it or sleep 2 grown ups. The only thing is that I stub my toe on the legs and it hurts!

The Younger sectional in the first picture is not just available in TX, but can be purchased at any store that sells Younger Furniture. See the store listing on their website: http://www.youngerfurniture.com/Store%20Locator.htm

Apologies -- we think that some of the photos changed order during the gallery posting. Our mistake will be fixed pronto!

I tried out the Jane sectional last weekend and it was extremely comfortable. I also love the look of the tufted cushions. Out of all of the sectionals (and sofas) I've tested in the past 3 weeks, this one has the best combo of comfort and style.

i love that first photo - the room has a perfect blend of colours and neutrals that looks lived in and not matched to some arbitrary colour scheme. oh, and the sectional is nice.

"any advice on affordable sectionals?"

Remember that a sectional is basically two sofas...
...so a $2500 sectional is two $1250 sofas.

Sure, there's cheaper new sectionals - but everyone already knows that pretty much means CB2 or IKEA.

I would look at the Dania Oregon Chaise Sectional: http://www.daniafurniture.com/home_living_sectionals/item/1438

It's actually very well made and comfortable -- much better than anything you'll find at Ikea. And at $795, it's very hard to beat!

Just FYI on the Carter Section and GUS Modern. GUS has a 20 off sale every year. I think it is in July. If you email them, sure they will share the info. That is when I purchased my Carter Sectional over a year ago. That really helped with the price. So far, I really love it and recommend it.

The Younger, American Leather, and Gus sofas are available at MOTIF in Kyle and San Antonio as well. They don't show all the models on the floor but you can special order all of them.

We have the Dania Shannon sectional in eggplant-colored velvet, and it's still fantastic after 5 years and one SEA-SFO move. The L-shaped sofa plus two ottomans and four throw pillows was about $2400 all in (five years ago). Only drawback was that we were quoted 8-12 weeks for it to be made and it was closer to six months. Augh. Great piece of furniture, though.

"advice on affordable sectionals"
Try Macy's.
I got mine at Macy's. Not cheap, but cheaper than what I was seeing. They run sales twice a year and have one going on now. Great deals.

I am very happy with the one I got. Extremely comfortable and holds up well.

Does anyone know how much a custom sectional would cost? I can't help wondering if a local carpenter couldn't make something nice for $3,500.

I love the Gus Modern sectional. I found a Gus-wannabe at a local mom and pop furniture store for only $1,699.
