Top Ten: Online Shops for Vintage Furniture and Accessories

101008_topten.jpgMore and more we find ourselves doing our furniture shopping online, or at least our window shopping. And with so many great online vintage furniture and accessories stores around, we decided that a roundup was in order. So jump below for at least ten of our go-to places for mid-century, industrial, 50's kitsch and 60's swank online. We tried to keep it to the Southwest but made a couple of exceptions for our favorites. Let us know if you have a shop you'd like to share:

100808_ocmodern.jpgOC Modern is one of our favorites. They find great mid century furniture and their prices are still deals. If you live local to Southern California you can skip any shipping fees. Plus Josh, who runs the place, is one of the nicest people we've ever met.

100808_red.jpgRed Vintage Modern Furniture based out of Phoenix has a huge inventory and lots of different styles to choose from. A bit more modern than mid-century you'll find a lot of upscale and more sleek furniture here.

101008_ebay.jpgEbay: Obviously this is THE online resource for many. We've never bought anything really big from ebay but wonder if you have and what you experience has been. Are there sellers that you totally trust? Any that people should be wary of? For some search tips check out Jonathan Adler's advice for finding great furniture. A couple of shops that other AT'ers have recomended are: U turn vintage wallpaper, last minute auctions and these search hints if you're looking for vintage paintings.

100808_modernsearch.jpgModern Search and Design based out of Southern California, they specialize in midcentury art and furnishings at reasonable prices.

101008_potato.jpgThree Potato Four is one of the happiest looking online shops for vintage housewares of the mid-century and industrial eras. They also sell new stuff. Beware, you will want everything.

100808_etsy.jpgEtsy: Etsy has a bunch of individual sellers that can offer up vintage finds at less than boutique prices since they don't have the overhead of a showroom. Often sellers only carry a couple of items, but some of our favorite vintage furniture and ephemera sellers are:
White Elephant Vintage for vintage globes, kitchen scales, frames and kitchen stuff.
Blue Bell Bazaar for vintage bottles, vases, candlesticks, platters and ceramics.
Spruce Home for spruced up vintage furniture recovered in great fabrics or refinished. You pay for the work done to each piece, but they're gorgeous and well made.
Vintage Supply Company has great vintage knick knacks and some nice Eames era patio furniture.

100808_starlight.jpgStarlite Room is great for 50's era tiki/bar/accessories and rattan anything. Good prices, pretty good inventory (but definitely if you're looking for tiki, this is it!).

092608thisisnotikea00.jpgThis Is Not Ikea is like craigslist with all of the really terrible stuff eliminated. Great prices, and the inventory changes constantly. Plus it's local to LA so no shipping charges if you live here and can go and pick it up.

101008_century.jpgCenturyModern, based in Dallas, Texas, is a well-priced source for great pieces from Edward Wormley to Heywood Wakefield, seating to accessories, all in excellent condition. And they update their website weekly!

101008_cleveland.jpgCleveland Art is industrial era vintage based in Downtown LA though most of their inventory gets shipped in (via train) from Chicago. We love the look (and have blogged about them here). And they're cheaper than places like Obsolete in Santa Monica (though that doesn't mean that we don't covet everything at Obsolete).

And lastly, we can never forget about our dear friend Craigslist. Less of a store and more of an online community, a great place to find local, vintage furniture and often at great deals. Check out our daily scavenger posts for our favorite finds (Grace does the digging so that you don't have to!).

Have any you'd like to add, or feedback about the one's we've featured?

Modern Search and Design is an excellent resource. Nick, who runs it, is a pleasure to deal with. He's very personable and knowledgeable, without the slightest hint of pretense. He just sold me a Milo Baughman recliner and the walnut end table/magazine rack pictured above. To say the least, I am very pleased with my purchases and look forward to seeing what lovely pieces Nick finds next.
