Transit Mailboxes

Transitmail_052108atla-01.jpgOne of the sounds we always eagerly await to hear each day is the "kerplunk-thud" of mail being dropped through the front door mail slot. But every once in awhile, our mail carrier ends up ripping a magazine/catalog while trying to get them through the fairly slim slot. It's always been a thought to add a front mailbox for bound material...

Transitmail_052108atla-02.jpgLooking straight out of one of the background details from The Incredibles, the Transit Mailboxes are machine crafted and powder-coated aluminum homages to 1950's modernist sensibility and exactly what we were imagining when considering an exterior mail receptacle. We like these very, very much (the Glencairn Orange is the citrus of my eye), and would think these would look great in multiples or even as interior mail sorting receptacles or magazine holders. These look even cuter in person, I want one so badly! They're based on Toronto subway station interiors (Glencairn Station really is that orange!), and you can buy them in Toronto in Leslieville, at one store in particular that I've forgotten the name of....... on the north side of Queen.

Way cool. These make me want to go to Howard Johnson's for dinner.

You must live in a mail-safe neighbourhood... I'd be afraid I'd lose my lovely magazines in these gorgeous containers in my 'hood. Heck, somebody would probably kype the mailbox, too.

Love Love Love! Any ideas about a more budget friendly version? What could I make these out of? Is something repurpose-able?
