Even in the winter, the desert can be a beautiful place (and is often much less crowded than peak season). We've rounded up our favorite getaways after the jump and wonder if they're the same as yours.

And with Modernism Week just 3 weeks away we're definitely dreaming of a quick trip. Our favorite spots (that we've been to, that friends have told us about, and those we'd love to one day stay in):

Hope Springs in Desert Hot Springs
it's not modern but Korakia rocks my world. the most relaxing, restorative place I've ever been.

out of my price range, but the james hotel in phoenix az (scottsdale, really) is stylin'. sorry, just looked it up, it's the "mondrian" now. looks like they changed the decor too, but it's still pretty heavy on the interiors.

Del Marcos - Worst place ever. The first time we stayed there it rained... in our room. The second time, a couple of crackheads next door were bouncing off the walls all night long.
Is the Orbit Inn still open? I know their other property, the Hideaway closed.
My new fave is the Desert Star Bungalows.

Forget what I said about the Orbit Inn and the Hideaway.

I just stayed at the Desert Star, it's intimate and cute. Not the most luxurious, but restful and quiet.
Plenty of house rentals can be found at VRBO.com
I also like Place in the Sun -- while the architecture is mid-century, it hasn't been done to the nines like these other places, it's just spacious and comfy without being twee.

The Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale is a great MCM getaway. http://www.hotelvalleyho.com/
The Clarendon in central Phoenix has recently been remodeled and is a more affordable option. http://www.goclarendon.com/

Arcosanti: http://www.arcosanti.org/expArcosanti/visit/overnight/main.html
Between $30-$65 for a one night stay, or $100 for their sky suite (http://www.arcosanti.org/project/project/built/skysuit/main.html).

I second the Korakia recommendation, and I think that the Moroccan styling of the hotel is very spare and elegant, almost modernist.

GoodNightDean -- I can give you several recommendations on homes for rent in Palm Springs, but it'd help to know more specifics (your budget, wants/desires, dates, etc.). Feel free to contact me if you'd like to talk.

HugeRooster: I'd love to know about your house for rent tips. We are looking for a modern (with great architecture) house that can accomodate 6 adults and 2 kids (!!!). We are looking for something as close to Palm Springs downtown as possible. Thank you! Stefanie
