Blogging...Toby Weiss Introduces Hotel Murano

071708_hotemurano.jpgif you're going to Tacoma, Washington any time soon and need a place to stay, you should definitely check out Hotel Murano. Once upon a time, it was a 25-year-old Sheraton hotel, stuffed with the same old generic hotel furniture and lacking any kind of personality. Now, it's an "art glass museum" inspired by hometown artist Dale Chihuly for all their guests to appreciate. A few photos from Toby's stay are after the jump....!

The front desk features an impressive fused glass panels that holds up to all the bumps and nicks from guests checking in and out.

Prototypes of the glass by Orfeo Quiagliata used throughout the building at the CorsoStaicoff office. One sample of the wall panel weighs over 30 lbs.

The blown-glass mirrored chandelier by Massimo Micheluzzi above the first floor lobby. According to Toby, "The entire hotel is a Glass Caste System, with each class of glass crucial for supporting the environment, from structural to functional to artistic."
