Custom Hotel

Move over Viceroy, Casa Del Mar and Shutters theres a new hotel in town. The Custom Hotel, located on Lincoln just minutes from LAX is sure to be the next hot spot on the westside. This modern boutique hotel offers modern minimalistic designed rooms, DJ lounge, pool table and grill, including a heated pool, cabanas and many more perks and amenities.

111907customhotel01.jpgThe hotel was originally designed by architect Welton Becket who also designed the famous Capital building, The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and many other well known buildings in Los Angeles.

Rooms start at $189 with free shuttle service to LAX, and you certainly can't find a deal like that west of the 405.

111907customhotel02.jpgSo if you have the family in town for the holidays you may want to consider the Custom Hotel - but you better book soon before the rooms get all booked up.

Yes it was the Furama- where I actually stayed on my first trip to LA and before I understood the geography of this sprawling city. Too bad this place is so far out of the way even for most westsiders. The name is terrible.

As someone who grew up in Westchester, that building has all kinds of connotations that I love seeing abolished by the sleek design of The Custom.

"The Fu" as it was called back in the day was known for bad Loyola Marymount frat parties (I think it acted as a temporary dorm at one point) and a gnarly karaoke bar shared by awkward Asian businessmen and the occasional Otis hipster.

The building has good bones so it will be interesting to see what they've done with it. You have to give them credit for painting the whole thing black though...I'm sure the senior community is already writing letters. The best part about this though is that it's directly across the street from one of the classiest, upscale bars in all of Westchester, the incomperable Fireside Tavern.
