Silver Luggage from SwissGear

atla-081508-swissgear.jpgLooks like we have metallics on the brain today. Earlier today, we blogged packing for a trip and noted that we'd given up our black rolling case for a silver one. Putting aside the fear that we'll encounter the same issue when everyone switches to silver suitcases, we're so pleased with our new case, we had to share...

Made by SwissGear, who knows a thing or two about packing light and strong, the silver case is designed with all sorts of great compartments including our favorite, a zippered side compartment that holds a laptop, eliminating the need for a separate laptop bag (although we brought a small, packable laptop bag with us that we would've used had we been asked to check our suitcase). Plus it's easy to spot and inexpensive, two features that sold us on it. (And a friend of ours too, who borrowed it to take on a trip, which is why we're showing you stock images rather than ones of our own.). Part of the Zurich collection, it's available through Target, and also comes in black and red. We have the 20" pilot case; larger sizes and other styles are also available.

I've got the same case in a metallic lobstery orange-red color. I got mine at TJ Maxx. I love it!

Everyone's switching to silver suitcases? I never got the memo.

I have found that the best innovation in luggage is the caster wheel, which allows your suitcase to turn in all directions - not just forwards and backwards. Often called a "spinner" suitcase. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me on my monthly business trips! Elevators, airplane aisles - everything is easier!

I have a silver Tumi T3 case that i found on eBay for half the $550 retail price since it was a discontinued color. Great case, but after one cruise it came home covered in filth from the airport baggage handlers.

Now I understand why everyone gets black.

Ditto bepsf. I've got a silver set of Samsonite luggage and grease and other unkown stains continually appear on it when it goes through baggage handling.

I once came home from a trip covered in filth from the airport baggage handlers. Best vacation of my life.

I have this case in the larger size. I wanted the 20" size, but I thought that the laptop compartment used up too much room (I always put my laptop in a tote and never with my clothes). I *love* the silver color, but alas, the baggage handlers struck again (they utterly destroyed the last bag I had which I why I bought this one) and now this one has black streaks on it and some scuffing around the edges. It is reasonably sturdy and as an earlier poster has noted, the caster wheels are awsome! They make a similar bag in black which is a little cheaper, but I think it lacks the 'spinner' wheels.

Baggage handling stains are the patina of well-traveling.

Thank you! I agree with K T G. A seasoned traveler has a beat up suit case.

We use Rimowa's Salsa carryon size luggage. Super light and very durable so we can pack a lot without the extra weight. And the scuff marks wipe right off...and of course its silver!!

I wonder did you purchase this just for the color or was there some other need for a new suitcase?
