It's a horrible, ugly sounding word.

I'll take "staycation" over "layoff" or "overtime" :D

Another media-driven trend word that people don't actually seem to use beyond blogs and magazines.

I truly dislike that word. Truly.

Wow... AT-ers really can complain about anything can't they?

Wow. I was going to say that I was happy it was a new word, since we are taking vacation time next week for our first ever STAY-cation and are excited about it.
Lots of haters out there....

I use staycation. Not on a daily basis, but enough. I also find it hilarious (no really, I laughed when I read it) the person upthread who complained about AT readers complaining. This website is fantastical (next year we'll get that word in!).

I think we should monitor our language like the French. We are going to lose the use of "play on words" if the words are already in the dictionary.

Language is a living thing so 'staycation' expresses the exact meaning but only if you are American. In my form of the English language we say 'holiday' not vacation.

Wow, it's a sad day indeed. Not AT's fault but wow that word irks me. I like the idea of staycations, but can we please stop combining words!?

I hate to be such a grump, but I hate this word. I hate the fetishizing of the ill effects of the recession. Most of us have been taking these supposed "staycations" for years. We called them "taking time off work, but not enough money to travel." I'm sort of shocked to see this being treated as a novel concept by anyone in the media--or at least anyone in the media other than Vogue or other publications pushing high-dollar goods and lifestyles to aspirational consumers. But, oh well. I'm starting my staycation next week, and it will consist of me sleeping until noon and watching reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the air conditioned paradise of my living room. Glamour, thy name is BlackFrancine.

I can't stand that word. it's just stupid! in two years it will be like 'bling' or as retarded as any of those media driven relationship nicknames like 'benifer' or 'bradgelina'. absolutely no need to add this to the dictionary. geez

I'm very tired of all of the cutesy made-up words nowadays. If I hear or see Twitter written one more time I may scream.

I was going to wish you all a "Happy Non-Voyage!" but am concerned that I'll offend everyone.
