Rodgers Erdmann Gallery

rodgerserdmann_gallery_fron.jpgWe came across the Rodgers Erdman Gallery while strolling Third Street the other day.

The gallery is a great space and has expanded to now include a wonderful courtyard in the back, which we were told will be used to house sculptures and other outdoor installations.

While the gallery showcases the works of owners, Gail Rodgers and Carmen Macias (and hosts space to Elena Zass Gallery), we were immediately drawn to Carmen Macias' works. The large canvases are filled with little shapes and forms. We liked El Pueblo Grande (above left), in which one can see the tiniest of stick figures creating a wonderful and joyous community amongst the little shapes that make up the cityscape.

I am interested to know the response they get, as it is not widely accepted to feature your own work in a gallery - studio OK - gallery, not so accepted.
It may appear "vanity", as gallery implies a curator & director is involved whereas this seems self-run, which might do well as an atelier.
