Inspiration....Tempaper

[Here are some before photos of our main room]

Apartment Therapy has definitely covered wall decor tips for renters and one of our faves has been the addition of temporary wallpaper. We've been living in rentals for years and wanted to check this neat product out in our own home. Check out our experience with the brand, Tempaper, after the jump.

[Here's the after of our main room with Tempaper wallpaper.]

We had the pleasure of chatting with Tempaper and trying their temporary wallpaper. From the six patterns, we picked GIO in Rust and Silver and also GIO in Silver. The paper goes up very easily - just take off the backing paper and you are set to go. The first piece took some time since we were getting used to the product. We put it in place, rearranged it, put it in place again, etc. We probably did this four times and the paper came right off and went right back up each time - no problem. After the first piece, we placed seven more sheets on our main wall and easily trimmed the extra paper around the door with an exacto knife. All in all, the main room took less then two hours and the second room took even less time.

We couldn't be happier with the look and feel of the pretty and graphic wallpaper in our home. If you are looking to enhance your space but can't or don't want to commit to painting or actual wallpaper, then try a product like Tempaper on one wall to create an accent wall. This is such a good idea! So many places won't let you paint or anything so this is a good alternative!

How do you think it would fair in a bathroom? Would the moisture make it peel?

It seems a bit pricey...but awesome none-the-less.

I really love the concept- but wish they had more designs/colors to choose from.

I wonder if I'd need to sand or resurface my textured walls to make this work?

Rebecca, did you approach them as an individual, or were they aware that you write for AT? Did you buy the paper for your project, or did they comp them to you? I am wondering how much your experience with them might have been influenced by your association with AT.

I was interested enough to order a sample from Tempaper/Lolliprops. There is a $3.50 charge for the sample (sounds reasonable) and $7.74 for shipping so San Diego (for a 5"x7" piece of paper). I called to confirm the shipping charges for the sample (I was sure it was a mistake), and their response was that it wasn't a mistake, it is due to their use of FedEx to ship samples, which is a business decision based on the value FedEx brings to them, they don't offer other shipping options, they didn't think the charge is that unreasonable, as evidenced by the fact that many people still order samples despite the shipping charges.

Compare that with Flor, who sends out 3 samples for $5 (no additional shipping).

Anyhow, the whole experience didn't leave me with a good impression of Tempapers/Lolliprops, and I don't think I would choose to do business with them, in part b/c of the tone of the response from their customer service representative, although the owner was a little nicer about it. Not wild about the (lack of) choices on their site. Otherwise, I'd jump on it. Sigh.

I wish this came in solid colors. I'd snap up a roll or two in red in a heartbeat.

SanDiegoAT,
Thanks for the review. I love the idea but don't need that kind of hassle.

I've ordered from tempaper and loved the product. Thought it was very hassle free to order and put up the paper. I called and spoke to a woman who answered all my questions to clear up any apprehensions I had. She also told me they were coming out with more designs for those of you who like the idea but haven't found the right design..

Good questions, SanDiegoAT. I'm pretty sure Rebecca here wasn't paying for jack...

That post sounds like an informercial...

It is a great idea, but they don't have many choices of color and patterns. None that I would like anyhow.

Does anyone know if you can put this up over existing wallpaper? I'd love to cover the wallpaper in my kitchen nook, but I don't believe the landlord will allow me to alter it.

cara - i bet it doesn't work as well over existing wallpaper. it might adhere to the existing wallpaper and damage it when you try to remove it. maybe try giving tempaper a call and see what they say?
