Look: Heat Sensitive Wallpaper Changes Pattern

0527o8heatsens-01.jpgEver wanted a wall treatment with the option to change it occasionally? Designer Shi Yuan's heat activated wallpaper opens up a world of design possibilities, revealing additional design details when heat is applied to the treated surface...

0527o8heatsens-02.jpgThis type of heat sensitive technology would certainly work well here in Los Angeles, as the paint requires a 35 °C change in temperature to fully transform (but changes occur just after 15 °C).

not a fan of those patterns, but the concept is, as Marie put it, outrageously cool!

I love the idea. I'm not sure how well it would pan out indoors, since I don't normally have that wide a variation in temperature--I usually keep within a range of 70-75 degrees F. I suppose this would be best used for "touch and change for fun" situations like the "life is beautiful" poster and the guy shown above.

Even if you keep the overall temperature fairly constant, there are often 'hot spots' near heaters, and in especially sunny spots. It would be interesting to see the intersection of light and patterns, particularly as warm, sunny spots shifted throughout the day.

Gimicky and pointless...
...this would only serve to encourage folks to keep their heat on too high when we need to be conserving energy.
