Wall Monogram

082108_wall01.jpgWe have posted about different styles of wall decals from bilk graphics to scribble tattoos to quotes to even chalkboard decals. We thought we would add to the collection these monogram wall decals via Pottery Barn.

082108_wall03.jpgAvailable in simply white or chocolate, these wall decals could be a nice addition to a kid’s or guest room. They seem pretty flexible and willing to come off of the wall when you are over the look too. Click here to check out more information.

Pottery Barn has gone off the rails recently.

as if one's bedroom would belong to anyone else? this seems ridiculous.

...but not as ridiculous as having a Paris Hilton quote in the powder room: 'Always act like you have an invisible crown on your head.' No kidding, seen with own eyes. Former employer's home.

do you hate all monograms? like on sweaters, towels, linens?

Monogrammed sheets and towels - Of course.
Monogrammed shirts and luggage - Why Not?
Monogrammed cocktail napkins and barware - Perfectly appropriate.

But Monogrammed walls? I don't think so.

never understood monogrammed or personalized anything...is it like in case you forget? i know its my robe or my family's towels. as a guest, i know who's house i'm in, thank you very much! i just don't get the point or the decorative appeal.

I don't hate monograms, but I'm mighty tired of letters and words and random letters that assemble into words being uses for decoration. The monogram above is somewhat ostentatious! A small monogram, like the ones "CI - CI" carved into the fictional Ingalls' headboard on "Little House and the Prairie" come to mind as a fairly delicate and loving treatment. I don't like decals either. That said, a lot of this trite junk seems right for kids, or it might just seem "fun" from an adult's perspective, while children can hate things just as well (and be right).

I will always love random letters and numbers, but I feel about monogrammed walls the same way I felt about the monogrammed sweaters my grandmother sent me when I went to college in the hopes I would pledge her sorority.

Enamorada -

Monograms show thought and care about your choices, and in this era of big-box retail-sameness monograms can make common items uniquely yours - The tradition goes back hundreds of years to coats of arms in medieval times.

And it sure as heck beats designer lables.

This looks really similar to a design at Wonderful Graffiti:

I've bought wedding gifts from them before and they have great wall art that is easy to remove.

I've always thought monograms were kind of egocentric.

I have been considering a similar look lately...there are a few shops on etsy that have some cool monogrammed decals

agree with jooly on this one. Having it on luggage may have it's place, but pretty much anywhere else - no thank you.

I recently had an indie wall sticker company I buy from tell me that Pottery Barn called to say they'd be knocking off their designs (tweaked slightly, of course) and just wanted to let them know. It makes me look at Pottery Barn and the related companies they own differently.

The monogram I love- preppy chic. I'd just get it from Etsy or a local shop and support someone who's work I love!

Mackenzi---does that indie wall sticker company have a website you can post here? Give them a little press and let us admire the original.
