Sometimes to get away from it all you have to keep it simple. For us that can often mean doing a slower activity and getting our hands dirty.

LA used to be one giant farm full of orchards. Most of them have had to move to the outskirts, but you can still find some. A couple of years ago we found one in Lancaster, just off Pearblossom Highway, and took home bundles of apples and peaches and even a couple of pears. It was a wonderful day of being outdoors and helped us welcome in Fall (eventhough it was easily 100 degrees).
The end of August is the beginning of apple picking season and, if you're lucky, the tail end of peaches. Find an orchard close by on Pick Your Own.

I'm lucky enough to have my Mom's orchard's in Ohio to pick several variety's of peaches and apples. I actually wrote about it early in the summer on my blog...
It truly is my secret escape!

Love that the first four are in the town I used to live in. Sad that I never found the time to stop in instead of just driving by.
