Escapes: Flying Pigeon LA

Adrienne talked about escaping through cycling earlier today. There's no better way to get perspective on a car-centric city like LA than to get on a bike (please be careful!). Check out this bike store that brings China's most ubiquitous bike to LA and hosts cool biking activities:

It's called Flying Pigeon LA and they're much more than just a store that sells bikes. Started by two brothers, FPLA sells, maintains and evangelizes the Flying Pigeon brand bicycle in Los Angeles. Really they're a whole bike lifestyle shop with bike related events like this sunday's 'get sum dim sum' ride.

I adore the looks and at $299 it's a wonderful deal but I'm bummed that it's only single speed. Here in Richmond, VA you need multiple speeds to easily deal with the various hills.

these bikes are everywhere in cuba! they are great.
i believe the government imported thousands of them during the "special period" in 1990s.

I rode one of these for 4 yearrs when I lived in China. Never ever again.
