Zac's Raw House
Melbourne

110309zac01.jpgMore and more we're noticing that the architecture in our own backyard is changing for the better. While there is still an excess of waterfront McMansions and cookie-cutter display homes, there is an occasional home that makes us breath a sigh of relief. Zac's House caught our eye for that reason today...

110309zac02.jpgThis week Zac's House was awarded the 2009 Australian Institute of Architects award for Residential Architecture in Victoria. The house is made from strong, simple materials which are mostly left in their raw state, leaving the furnishings to bring this home to life. The large windows also brings the outside in and with the house placed at the very end of the block, hidden away from the nearby neighbors, there is a lot of garden to enjoy. Neeson Murcutt Architects are the firm behind Zac's House, find out more about this project from their website here. 110309zac03.jpg110309zac04.jpg110309zac05.jpg

Very beautiful house! I'd say it's genuinely reflecting an Aussie style! =)

Now that's an open floor plan, love how the windows extend out into the backyard!

The boxed-in windows look cool and also shade from the heat of the sun. But I'll bet that yellow paint still creates a nice glow inside! Smart. The icy blue countertop looks very chic with the light wood.

I am not usually one for architecture of this sort, but I really like this one.

I love the windows! This gives me some great thoughts about the windows I need to have replaced.

This is my dream home. I'm sure the textures are illuminated beautifully by the Australian sunshine.

The only thing I don't like is the bathroom. The whole concrete-floor-white-tile-high-roof look reminds me of every roadside and state bathroom I've ever had to stop in. No thanks.

Make that "state park" bathroom.
